Yaya Toure

My BM username is a bit of a giveaway. Silva can't shoot and Yaya went like a gazelle in the semi then again against Stoke. None of us will forget the Agueroooo moment, yaya did huge things for us at the time. I remember kinky and roslersgrandad,
yaya has a place in City history and I love him for it.

Gotta say lads too, reading this thread is excellent.

The team comes before individuals, however loyal some fans are regarding Yaya because of the odd moment of magic.

You're unlikely to give up on Yaya as that is your opinion but to claim he only contributed the odd moment of magic is revising history and his time spent at our club.

That's not what I said though is it? You're taking it out of context. The rest of the post is clearly talking about the Yaya at this present time, not about the Yaya of the previous 4-5 years.

He'd destroy the Italian or French league but not so sure about the German league.

Our performances this season without Toure, suggest that dropping him wouldn't have been the right solution to our problems.
There seems to be some deliberate double-dealing going or some fans are unable to distinguish between past and present.

The real ronaldo morphed into fat ronaldo. The very greatest of players are the greatest players for a limited period of time. And in Yaya's case he was a physical phenomenen. A man mountain who if you could keep up with him was untackleable. But the mountain requires a powerful engine.

The current Toure is not producing this season. At the best he is flickering and despite what you claim we haven't tried to play without him. He has played 26 league games. City have played 30 league games.

I refuse to believe that Pellegrini could not field a competent City midfield from the likes of Fernandinho, Fernando, De Bruyne, Nasri, Delph, Navas and Silva.

For a period this season we had little alternative but to play him. Now as injured players return we have alternatives. They are not as good as Yaya of old. Very very few are, but it's the manager's job to get the best out of his current squad and our midfield players are better than the current Yaya plus 3/4.

If that was true he'd have more than 6 goals and 5 assists in a team that has been built around him - overly so.

When Toure was at his rampaging best it made sense to build our team around him. The team was so good we didn't do that. Everything worked, everyone held their own. But now we are playing Toure and adjusting our old 442 to a 451 to cover for Toure's immobility. If we are prepared to do that for a player then we should do it for a player in their prime. A De Bruyne, Aguero, or Silva. His stats are not good enough to do that. Goals scored: 6. Assists way way down. What we get for packing the midfield is not enough to warrant the change.

We'd have been better off playing Aguero and Iheanacho together or Aguero alongside Sterling (instead of asking Sterling to play as a tucked in left winger to help bolster the midfield). Too many accommodations being made like this all over the pitch to enable Toure to play, and the return does not warrant it.

It's absolutely ridiculous that a team with our players can't put two back to back wins together. A big part of it comes down to the set up with Toure. He should have been dropped a long time ago

?????

Go on. What do you object to.

Pellegrini used to be renowned for playing two up front. Now we are distorting our team to extend Yaya's playing life. We've got other very good players in our team. My pojnt is simple, instead of building our team around a layer who is past his best, why not play around players who are at their peak like De Bruyne....as Wolfsburg so successfully did. Worked for Leicester this season.

I highlighted what I objected to. You are calling for the team to be built around a player in their prime and then use Silva as an example.

Then you fail to understand something very basic. Toure is physically finished as a top flight player and will never ever be able to do what he once did. Silva's issue are form and injury. He can play on for years, assuming he gets over his ankle injury. We have Silva, Aguero, Sterling, De Bruyne, Nasri. All exceptional players.

We have Sterling playing as a tucked in left winger. Aguero isolated up front so he has to come deep or wide, anywhere but the penalty area. De Bruyne was even benched for a while. De Bruyne got Wolfsburg into the Champions League because Wolfsburg chose to play their team around him. Sensible when a team like that gets a player like that. Leciester have done that to great effect this season with Mahrez and Vardy. We are now doing this with Toure. We are packing the midfield trying to give Toure a platform to play, but he isn't as good as he was and if affects the game of other players. It's not working. The suggestion that nothing else works is not reasonable. We haven't tried anything else, and Silva, Aguero, Nasri, De Bruyne are exceptional players. The supporting players are internationals. Some scoff at Kolarov, Sterling and Delph, but look at the goal Kolarov scored this week for Serbia. Sterling was the best young player in Europe. De Bruyne was the most creative player in German football. We are playing like we are a one-man team around Toure and disregarding the abilities of the other players.
