But then there is no link between defence and attack. Fernandinho hasn't shown he can be that link. He has shown he can support someone, but it takes an awful lot to ask to reveive the ball under pressure and retain it whilst also playing a positive forward pass.
And in actual fact, if we have Fernando and Dinho playing centrally, we don't need Toure running around like a loon to win it back.
This Is where I have a problem with his criticism. Some players are untouchable and some are slated no matter what.
We could get played through time and time again with Dinho and Fernando supposedly protecting the back four, yet it will be Yaya's fault for not tracking a man who was never his man in the first place.
If we have a back four, plus two midfielders who supposedly specialise in protecting said back four, Yaya should be able to let a midfielder run past him without worrying about it. If Dinho or Fernando were capable of controlling a game, Yaya wouldn't need to be so deep. I think because he comes deep to take the ball, people also expect him to defend in a deep position too, but in my mind he is only coming so deep because nobody is capable enough on the ball. As a midfielder his work rate should be compared more so to that of Silva and De Bruynes, and not Dinho or Fernando's, because he is there primarily to attack.
