Yaya

Tot he was alright. Did some good things and some poor things. Knew he'd get man of the Match after a goal and assist. But I thought, Fernandihno, Sterling and Fernando Otamendi and Kompany were all better. He was on par with Aguero, who also had lots of good and bad. Slightly better than Silva, Clichy and Sagna.

But then again, everyone played well, so really can't complain. If I was pushed, ID take Fernando for playing at a level higher than I expected. The others played at levels I already expected.

I agree they are not ideal. Not convinced by Delph. He hasn't had enough games yet for us to know whether he can play at the highest level

I'd rather play one of Delph, Zabaleta or Kompany and Fernando than Toure. I'd leave Toure to do damage off the bench.

Fucking hell you're hilarious.

Not to the level that Yaya was at 2 years ago.

But at the moment Id rather have a defensively sound midfield plus Silva, Aguero etc than a midfield that's operating a man down when we lose the ball
But then there is no link between defence and attack. Fernandinho hasn't shown he can be that link. He has shown he can support someone, but it takes an awful lot to ask to reveive the ball under pressure and retain it whilst also playing a positive forward pass.

And in actual fact, if we have Fernando and Dinho playing centrally, we don't need Toure running around like a loon to win it back.

This Is where I have a problem with his criticism. Some players are untouchable and some are slated no matter what.

We could get played through time and time again with Dinho and Fernando supposedly protecting the back four, yet it will be Yaya's fault for not tracking a man who was never his man in the first place.

If we have a back four, plus two midfielders who supposedly specialise in protecting said back four, Yaya should be able to let a midfielder run past him without worrying about it. If Dinho or Fernando were capable of controlling a game, Yaya wouldn't need to be so deep. I think because he comes deep to take the ball, people also expect him to defend in a deep position too, but in my mind he is only coming so deep because nobody is capable enough on the ball. As a midfielder his work rate should be compared more so to that of Silva and De Bruynes, and not Dinho or Fernando's, because he is there primarily to attack.

Really good post that....

Correct and he's so fuckin good at it when allowed to do so.

He was good last night, but not dominant. He's just not up to the level he used to be and can't influence the game so well. He tried to drive forward on occasion and in seasons gone by would have been unstoppable but was caught or overplayed it instead. Having said that, the shape of the side allowed him to play his natural game. He covered a lot of ground, still switched off a bit at times but had Fernando and Fernandinho in and around him to ensure that didn't matter. He made an excellent tackle late on when tracking back which showed how committed he remains and his goal was exquisite. We lose more than we gain with him out of the side. He pressed and harassed the opposition on the front foot with the rest of the team but ensured there weren't too many occasions where we were easily bypassed. If we play like that until the end of the season we'll be incredibly hard to beat.
