I've said it before but he has arguably surpassed Bell, Lee and Summerbee in what he has achieved at this club. He is definitely on the same level.

Used in the right way, he can still be a match winner.

- The problem is though, that happens more and more rarely, ever since his one (2013/2014 was it?) absolutely great season, he has been in decline, no matter how you look at it. He obviously decides on hos own when to put in a shift, to show a little passion and desire. I'm not surprised at all he all the sudden decided to play really really well the other night. But the team deserves such commitment every single time he steps out on the pitch.
And the club should never have to deal with such shit he and his agent has been up with over the past years. It's pathetic and ugly.

That would be a valid statement if we were talking about Aguero, or the Yaya of two years ago. Not today though.
World class suggests you play well every single game, throughout the season, year after year. Not simply when you feel like it or have a personal gain from temporarily appearing to be committed. I really honestly don't think Yaya cares about our club the least. He came here only for the money, and all he wants is more money and to be celebrated. Compare his behavior and persona with Sergio and David for example.

I hope we get one of those mega-offers from China for him. Yes he has been one of our best ever players, and sometimes even a truly great one. But I reckon his time is over, and I won't be the slightest sad to see him go elsewhere, no matter where that might be.

A world class player he has been, probably the most influential player in city's history when you measure it against trophies, however, it's time to move him on, thankfully there will be no sentimentality from Pep and he can do what most of us would find impossible, cutting out heros.... There will be a queue right down Ashton old road waiting to make mega bids for him if he does not get a 3 year contract.
I watched bayern juvenile last night. His power and pace his stamina willingness to work would make him a shoe in for either.
3 years would only take him to 37,he would still be in his prime.

Or maybe some unknown Chinese or Saudi club?

He's not in his prime now mate so him being there at 37 is a stretch to say the least.
He turned down China because he doesn't want to play there, not so much out of loyalty. I just want him to have his swan song over the next couple of months and if he's moved on, let it happen with him being the City legend he's been.

Great servant of the club and has done as much for us on the field as any other player in our whole history. On his day a genuine worldy. I agree with all of that sentiment.

However, when players legs go the ones you want to keep around are the intelligent players with good character and good all round influence on the club. I would not put Yaya in that category. Gareth Barry, Paddy Veira, Kompany etc are all the sort of old pros you keep around and offer them coaching jobs. Yaya is one to let go as quietly as we can.

The problem is that he's 32, doesn't have the stamina to play the box-to-box role in a 2 man midfield Pellegrini wants him in and thus he gets exposed. With a manager like Guardiola who will set up a midfield properly and not ask him to do the running of 2 players, he would still be a fantastic player - as evidenced by his good performances when we've had a 3 man midfield in europe this season.

If he is willing to take a smaller role in the squad, one where he's not playing every game, and the appropriate pay cut then I don't see how any City fan could be upset with the idea of him staying at the club.

We could see both sides of that last night. Alonso started. Guardiola took him off & revamped the team with pace/ crossers etc, then brought on Thiago to beef up the pass & move game again.

I imagine that Yaya could find himself in both situations if he stays.

A few 'ifs' in there mate but if that scenario was possible I doubt many would turn their noses up at it. I suspect he's not going to agree to a payout though even if he was to accept a smaller role.

Even Dimitri Seluk can't expect his client to get a similar salary with a contract signed at 33 vs. the olde one he signed at 29.

Realistically if he's already rejected a Chinese offer then he's not going to get paid more anywhere else as a starter than we'd pay him as a squad player.

When did you last see any of our central midfielders getting into the box for a tap in from open play? We don't get central midfielders into the box enough, we don't have the energy to do it unless Fernandinho is deployed further forward. Accommodating Yaya means Dinho has to sit and hold the majority of the time.

No it doesn't. Fernando isn't that type of midfielder. He's a lot of things but he isn't a goal scorer. He's only had one season where he has scored more than 5 league goals in his entire career. Fernandinho would only theoretically have to sit if we were playing Dinho and Toure in a 2 man midfield, where in that case the player who is defensively better would sit and the player who is better offensively would push. That's a fairly simple concept.

With Fernando in the team, there's not really a reason why Fernandinho can't push forwards. He did it in tandem with Yaya against Sevilla away to great effect.

There's several other reasons for why midfielders don't score tap ins without even bringing Yaya up.

1: We don't cross (Clichy/Sagna), or when we do, the cross doesn't beat them first man (Navas) or it is actually a shot (Kolarov)

2: Navas on the right occupies the exact same space as Sagna/Zabaleta. It's totally ineffective and has been for the last 2 years. It doesn't allow for more crosses, all it does is take away an attacking option. It actually stops the isolation that Navas probably needs to show off his only attribute (speed) so instead of getting a chance to cross we play the ball back across the outside of the area, over to the left, and back to the right. Aguero is hardly ever even in the box.

3: We have zero wide threat. Sterling needs to cut back and Clichy just isn't effective as an attacker. Kolarov can cross at times but he's god awful at almost everything else.

4: Nobody shoots from outside the area, or when we do, we don't hit the target enough meaning there's no chance of a rebound/tap in.

5: Teams totally crowd their own penalty area against us. Often there will be 9 or 10 players in or around it. Unless we push forward with the same amount of bodies, we have a less than favourable chance of finding enough space in the box to score a 'tap in'.

I'll finish by saying Yaya didn't play on Saturday and we played against one of the worst defences you will see in top flight football, yet we didn't create a single chance against them, nor did we get bodies into their box.

Ya Ya has dominated the history of our club for six seasons now, aided by Vinnie, David and Sergio, but nothing is forever and time is catching up with three of them. This season especially we are clueless when we don't have Ya Ya on the ball when we attack, but we also have to admit that we need Fernando in the team for him and Ya Ya to add up to one complete midfielder. I don't know if Ya Ya will be at City next season (but that depends on the club, not his agent) but I suspect that the creation of a new City team, begun by Pellers last summer, will be accelerated by Pep and the spine of the club, brought in in 2010-1 will be replaced, hopefully by the arrival of Pogba and Gundogan at least.

Biggest Yaya backer on the board, and I thought he played well on Tuesday, but from the praises coming to him I think majority on this board don't understand his main role on the team. On Tuesday team was playing behind the ball, and counter attacking which they don't do 99% of the time (mostly possession based team). Yaya role was to play behind Aguero and spearhead the counter attack. He did that well, but for all the praises coming to him for he wasn't that effective in the end because team didn't score. He had more sprints and more action in the final 3rd giving the appearance of effectiveness, but I don't think there were that many clear cut chances.

Majority of the time Yaya is initiating the play from deep and linking D to forwards. So if all is going to plan, he is laying the ball at the feet of the likes of Silva, Sterling, etc to make the final move to Aguero. He is not going to get credit if it comes off. If team is chasing goals, he will go forward more often and take more risks, and it will appear like "he is trying harder" but really he is playing a different role. Most fans don't recognize this and slag him with lazy tag.

Interesting post. It's why Toure was second only to Hazard last season in extended assists.
