Yaya

Hahaha, hates a bit strong, strongly dislike is probably closer to the truth but that doesn't mean I want him to fail. Why would I? I support City, not individual players and while he wears a City shirt I want him to do well but sadly it's not happening and hasn't for a while however you try to dress it up. He's not performed to the best of his abilities for two years barring the odd 10-15 minute spell here and there.
Bizarre. Bet you'd love Barkley to replace him as well.

Only players like Delph, Fernando have to sit. And Yaya doesn't have all the attacking powers he once had

He played well tonight. He has proven that he has a role. However he will be even slower in August. I'd let him go. There will be some clubs who will take him. We need a replacement and does anyone seriously think Toure will be a regular starter under Guardiola? You all know he will not. At least he will go out as a League Cup winner at Wembley. brought us our best days. Much more influential than any other City player which is why his decline is hurting us now
the issue for me is that
whilst his game has seen a massive decline, nobody stepped up to the plate and that's why out tram can be so average at times but what some blues do is single him out and make him the scapegoat. We'd rather say that Yaya is holding us back than admit that we are (as a team) not quite good enough or to put it in another way, the team has basically run its course and needs serious fleshing up. Yaya may not control games
per se but his ability to keep possession and do the nice little things under pressure makes us closer to a reasonable team than when he's not there. So for me, the issue is not whether Yaya's game has seen decline or not because it surely has. Before KDB got injured, Silva played
week in week out in the middle and KDB
mostly stayed wide but he still hardly
influenced games. I know he's playing through injury but some people would never look at that as a problem but cherry pick on their predetermined
targets of blame. The Merlin debacle is surely worth talking about and one of the many reasons why our standard has seen
a massive drop this season but folks
would rather aim at predetermined blame targets. Saying we should change tactics and get more defensive in games is all well and good, but we'd lack that cutting edge and creativity to undo a lot'a epl park-the-bus teams especially as darling Silva is not exactly firing at the moment
and Nasri is unavailable. This tactics
would do us more harm than good and
even if we have a midfield base of Delphy
and Ferny, it's no guarantee that the
issues will be sorted because we have a lot of players whose defensive game is
not good enough. That's on the defensive side. The offensive bit would not be helped as well as we do not have that much creativity at the moment (as I pointed out earlier) which is almost why Yaya must start games when fit. Quite simply, we are not a great team by any stretch at the moment but we are by far a reasonable team with him in it than otherwise.

I thought he was our motm last night. Kiev were not great but Yaya largely helped us control the game and tempo. Thought Fernando was very good as well. Thought he was going to melt Joe at one point. If he wants to play for Pep, I can see him being here next season and carrying out an important role.

Only Yaya and Nasri really take on the responsibility of our possession in our entire squad. When we're supposed to be a possession team, that's quite a bizarre thing. When those two aren't playing nobody else takes responsibility for possession.

The way this squad has been assembled is weird. Last Summer we spent nearly £100m on two counter-attacking players who give the ball away a lot but ask them to play possession football. It was as if no thought was put into the transfers and Sterling was just bought because he was English and de Bruyne just bought because he was German POTS, not because they would fit into our team. And you look around and see similar things around the rest of the squad; Bony, doesn't fit into the team, Delph gives the ball away a lot, Mangala isn't a possession player...our recruitment is baffling!

Replacing Yaya will be the biggest thing Begiristain has to do. Bigger than replacing Pellegrini, it'll be the most important signing he makes in this era of City.

He needs to get it right because Yaya is still our best midfielder even though he's slower, less fit, less impactive than ever before. When he doesn't play we're a far far worse team.

For all the criticism he's still our most important player as he's the only one who can be the link from defence to attack.
Not sure he's our MOST important player, but the last few weeks have reinforced how important he is.
Most (me included) have criticised him all season for many halfhearted performances, and rightly so, but we do miss him a lot when he doesn't play. He just completely controls it.
The rest helped I think....!
We need to make sure we find a true replacement, as even if pep doesn't get rid of him, it has been clear for 2 seasons he can't do it week in week out.

The only thing I care about right now is Yaya's form on Sunday. Lately he has been playing well and yesterday he was simply great. Also took his role to lead the team well, even putting Hart in place for being silly trying to hit an Oekaine butt with his goalkicking. Yaya is and will always be a big game player. I want him to be MotM on Sunday and worry about selling him or not when the time comes. And when he leaves I will remember him as one of the most important and influencual players even to have witnessed in a blue top. Even with his well known issues and twat agent.

You have to consider the standard of the opponents. The old Yaya would have torn them apart. The fact he had a good game tells you just how bad they are

He played well against the opposition...what more was he supposed to do? Some people will never be satisfied I guess

All of the above for me.

I said he played well. He was the best player on the pitch.

But it was against weak opponents who were unable to expose his defensive weakness. There are some fans who are so feeble that they think he's still the same player he was and if he can play well against Kiev he can reproduce it in the Premier League. If you gave Ronaldinho time and space on the ball, I bet he'd look good too

I mentioned in the original post that I've been on the "Sell Yaya" side for a while. Yes, Kiev are not the best team we have or will play this season. But he put in a performance that surprised me. Honestly the only way he stays next year is if he accepts a lesser role for Pep and then he will only play if he performs like he did tonight.

He had a rest prior to the game, & had two extra players covering in midfield, thus more energy & looked fine.

This was surely the view on here pre season, of how Yaya must be used ? With two in midfield around him ? There are a few computer nujobs on here who think Yaya can sail through the season in a midfield two, but surely the majority were saying pre season that we need to keep him at 100% & have an extra man to do his legwork? That was where most of us had Pogba playing surely ?

The OC has run Yaya into the ground, like he has everyone else.

Now we have wasted that Yaya performance in a game where it wasn't needed, can he do it again on Sunday or will he be back to half pace ?

Rolled back the years last night. Whatever his extra motivation, he needs to keep it for the rest of the season to ensure a good send off to his City career and to ensure that we go as deep as we can in the CL. He's key to it.

Probably to simple to suggest it is just a little more rest he has had recently - Liverpool away, and the weekend. Definitely looked like the Yaya of a few seasons ago.
Like you say, don't know what the extra motivation was, but maybe it is just a case of managing him slightly better, and not playing every game?

Role, it was just after Joe botched a kick out. He hit one of the Kiev players on the back and it could have been dangerous. As captain Yaya let him have it between the eyes. Joe made the mistake of answering back which prompted even more vein popping mouth foaming from Yaya. Good to see a bit of passion on the pitch
