Yorkshire Cricket Club

When I was in my teens I definitely used what I'd now consider was awful language ie racist and antisemitic. Now at the time I didn't consider myself racist or anti semetic because I was too stupid to realise that by the literal definition I was. This is going back nearly 30 years.
Now, as a 44 year old man who hasn't used any derogatory isms for many many years due to educating myself and many travels around the world I'd be insulted if somebody still considered me to be a racist or anti semetic
We've no chance of moving forward if we can't accept that circumstances can change, and yes, I'm happy to include members of YCCC in that if they have indeed changed their mindsets over the last couple of decades.

A very refreshing and honest post.

Still every other cricket county to be investigated. This thread will run to 600 pages and involve about 4 posters.
I'm out of here.

No really mate, Rafiq’s very poor treatment by Yorkshire stands up on its own as shocking. That said, I’m not very clear on the point you are making.

FWiW I know from other sources that Rafiq had a poor reputation for behaviour at Yorks but that doesn’t justify being racially abused.
The point I'm making is that people in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones.

P.S. As we speak I bet there are people digging and digging, not just into his past social media activity but even his sporting behaviour too.

I hope no 'Keith Gillespie type stuff' comes out of that.

Regarding how he only apologised after he was exposed, and not bringing his own actions to light beforehand. Basically, his hypocrisy. Nothing about you personally defending antisemitic behaviour.
Is there a chance he didn't mention it because he'd forgotten all about it being as it was over a decade ago?
Not saying that's the case but it's not implausible that it never entered his mind.
It would make him a bit stupid, granted not to look through his social media before making accusations like he has but not necessarily a hypocrite.

Wouldn't that also apply to those he's accusing? If he (as of yet hasn't) publicly stated that he has changed his views, why not allow others the opportunity to state their own change in behaviour and regret of their action, before demonising them publicly?

Until I hear him state that he is just as culpable of abuse as those he has accused, that is the view I have of him. Just as until I hear those he has accused publicly state they regret and admit their actions but have worked to mature and understand why their remarks and behaviour was abhorrent, I will regard them as being racially ignorant.
