Your Favourite Classical Music Pieces

Wagners Ring des Nibelungen , yes I know its 15 hours but it is a stunning masterpiece.

I'm sorry I missed this in Sunday, but I was watching the footy anyway. I'm looking forward to catching up with this later on this evening.

Carol of the Bells is so evocative of Christmas, that it never fails to bring me that special festive feeling of light, life and warmth, in the midst of everything cold and dark, and the doom and gloom of the world. The scene in Home Alone where this song features always brings a tear to my eye.

Thanks for sharing this, and I'm sure your daughter-in-law has done a great job in putting this together.
Very proud of her. She is the titch in white at the last curtain call.

I had both on. Football on tv, concert on iPad!

Saw Rattle conduct the Berliner Phil doing Mahler 2, Resurrection symphony, at the Royal Festival Hall a few years ago.

It blew me away.

Ive always loved this. English composer Edward Elgars "Nimrod" ......You will probably know it, its 4 minutes long.
Its part of his Enigma Variations.
Each variation was written to describe his friends musically. Nimrod is a fabled biblical hunter, which Elgar thought described the personality of A Jaeger, one of his best friends.

Its called "Enigma" because Elgar said every movement was based on a much more famous melody, up to date no-one has definitively worked out what.

Sounds particularly good on headphones.

One of our choices for my mums funeral last month.

We also chose this one to accompany some footage that was shown to celebrate her life.
