Your favourite county in England and Wales?

I still call it Cumberland. Yer can't buy a Cumbria sausage, but yer can buy a Cumberland sausage. I stopped once at Tebay services and bought some so-labelled Cumberland sausages and asked the guy whether we were in Cumberland or Westmoreland, 'cos I didn't want fakes. He said he didn't know 'cos he was from Malaga!

My Mum came from Whitehaven and i think she always said that Silloth was like Paradise. I've never been to Silloth so I don't know, but Whitehaven always struck me as being very ill-named!
Ha! I'm in Silloth quite a bit, and although it's pleasant in the summer, it's not quite in Cumbria's top ten...

Ok, just cos nobody's mentioned it and I grew up there...putting in a plug for Northants. Some beautiful villages, lot of not so beautiful towns but beautiful still

A couple have already mentioned Gwynedd and I'd like to third it. Spent last weekend in abersoch/aberdarron/llanbedrog and when the sun is shining there is no place íd rather be on this earth.
Rather than the A55 we drove home via Balla lake and some of the scenery is breathtaking. It reminded of the garden route in South Africa where a turner of a corner can bring a gasp.
I'm bîased I agree as a lifetime of holidaying in those parts has made it feel like a second home to me but when I hit the hill just before Pwllheli and see the St Tudwalls Islands at Abersoch I genuinely get a warm feeling. So.... Gwynedd
