A gun has but one purpose

but it depends how you use it, if your talking about (usually) illegally aquired guns that are used all over the world for crime then fair enough, but take me for example i underwent checks on my personality and criminal records for about 4 months to receive my shotgun licence which i will be using recreationally, shooting purposly bred birds, rabbits and the odd fox-conserving livestock and land, and then there are gun appreciators (such as this thread is meant for) who like guns how they look etc
My point being the clue was in the thread title, if you are anti-gun, then why post?

because to most people myself included have never been around guns and find it strange people have a favorite one.
Most people only here of guns on the news when someones has been killed by one and that could be why people have an adverse reaction to them.

It's disingenous of you to suggest that the purpose of a firearm is to kill, without enquiring whether merely brandishing a firearm, shooting to frighten, shooting to wound (if possible), or shooting to kill is always impermissible. I'd rather have one and not need it, than need one and not have it.

You might also say "violence never solves anything", but, of course, that is patently a feel-good falsehood.

What guns do you admire?

I have to say that for usability and the pure simplicity it would be the Webley revolver. It may not be a looker but its so reliable and can stop a man dead over 20m away. Its very British and has stood the test of time like no modern handgun ever could. It conjures up memories of Michael Caine blasting Zulus in the film ‘Zulu’.

The colt 45 semi auto is one of the best modern guns I have handled, and is a future great.

Anyone else like to throw some into the mix? Discuss.

What's the right way to load one and do you know how to make one safe? I need an idiots guide in case I ever have a go.

i can understand that, but what gets me is how people can only have one way of seeing thing's, take football, football has got hooliganism associated with it does that mean all football fans are hooligans? The mafia-does that mean all italians are part of the mafia. If you catch my drift

I'm anti gun ownership because they have one purpose and one only......yes you are a law abiding chap but if guns were banned we would have very little gun crime, I see no need for them.....not trying to be a pain but why breed things just to shoot them?
Why not buy a replica if you like looking at them

Have you ver tried to shoot to wound???? very tough
I would suggest you would really only ever need one if somebody else had one?.......hhence my feelings that ban guns problem sorted

thats like saying because drugs are illegal the use of them decreased when infact the use of them didnt change or increased due to the next generation becoming hooked, the point of breeding to shoot is an old english tradition, tell me something if you have kids would you rather have them on their playstation all day saturday or have them out in the english countryside places they only ever see on the news nowadays.
usually if you have a gun in the house for asthetic reasons then it has been de-commisioned with the firing pin and other parts taken out

I understand where you come from on the guns for shooting vermin etc......you can't get hooked on guns!
My children have left home years ago.....one is in the met and sees gun crime daily the other still runs with me through the countryside every weekend.....I don't have to shoot things to see the countryside
