Your most personally moving moment in sports history (apart from City)

Cricket world cup - just an incredible finish.
Rugby world cup 2003 - see above.

Those moment were their own versions of our Aguero moment. Intense, times we were struggling, times we were looking like we would win and then late late drama.

For individual moments that caught me, I'd say Cathy Freeman winning 400m gold in Sydney. The whole stadium on their feet and an aboriginal woman winning an Olympic gold... it was incredible. So iconic even down to that speedsuit she was wearing.

For the complete opposite, I don't know if anyone saw the story about Schalke thinking they'd won the league in 2000. That really got to me. It was just like our Aguero moment but technology failed them and they wrongly thought Bayern's game had ended and the title was theirs. When the screens finally got a feed from the game the fans thought they were watching a replay, but were watching Bayern equalise late late on to snatch the title away from them.

Essentially it would be like us celebrating the Aguero goal, only to find out ten minutes later it had been ruled out by VAR. Shocking. The only difference being, for Schalke, at least it wasn't Dortmund winning it instead.
Just read that Schalke story on the BBC. Poor sods, feel for them 20 years on.

Many years ago, British Open at Royal St Georges, I think, I had £ 25 on Azinger to win at 20 to 1. He led almost to the end, but blew it on the last.
Similarly, I did the old tricast on a handicap at Newcastle. Perm any three from four. Well my four led by miles at the last....one fell leaving three clear......on the run in the jock on the third placed horse dropped his hands thinking it was all over and was pipped at the line. £600 up the spout. The stewards warning didnt get me my money.
In contrast, Haydock evening meeting. Did the old tote dual f'cast on the 1mile handicap. In the corporate section there was just a small tote counter. Forecast paid nearly £500 and at the end, they had to send for more cash to pay me. Wonderful.

Yes, punting is emotional too.

On the flip side of my earlier post about those two rowers is, of course, that saturday evening when Jessica Ennis, Mo Salah, sorry, Farah and Greg Rutherford claimed 3 gold medals in, what, a couple of hours? The atmosphere in the stadium that evening was electric.

I was moved when Mo Salah was made a Knight of the Realm for being the Liverpool player born closest to the pyramids.

The last hour of The Cricket World Cup Final in 2019 was incredible. Only 93:20 tops that to that for me for pure emotional drama at a sporting event.

It had absolutely everything and it still amazes me England actually won that game

The London Olympics in 2012. John Inverdale interviewing two British rowers who had just failed to win a gold. They were on the brink of physical collapse, and utterly devastated.

It's an emotional watch.

remenber it well, brink of collapse, if not worse, gave everything ....
