I'd read ten pages by then and coz I'm old, I forgotMaybe it's because people are being good boys and girls — unusually for BM.

The 2012 Ryder Cup comeback by Europe known as the Miracle at Medinah . Gripping prolonged drama.
May I say I absolutely love posts like this because I learn new things. Super interesting story. Thanks for writing it.Has to be Le Mans 2016 and Toyota's heartbreaking failure for me...
If you're not aware 'Le Mans' is the name of a 24 hour car race held near the French City of Le Mans. It's one of the most prestigious motor races in the world and Toyota had a long history of trying but failing to win the race.
As things are in Motorsport they didn't enter every year but when they did they normally did well but ultimately always fell short of victory usually against one of the German manufacturers in Porsche, Audi or BMW.
Up to 2016 their record was an unusually unlucky one.
1992 - 2nd
1994 - 2nd
1998 - Retired from the lead in the final hours.
1999 - Retired from the lead in the final hours.
No entries at all between 2000 and 2011.
2013 - 2nd
2014 - Were leading 1-2 until various issues forced both leading cars to retire.
2016...
Toyota were finally leading when it counted in the last few hours until cruelly in the last 6 minutes of the race (A 1440 minute race!) their car lost power and the victory was snatched from them by Porsche. The harsh rules at the time meant that because they didn't finish their last lap quick enough that they were not even classified as finishers.
Porsche had taken the lead of the race on the very last lap of a race that had gone on for 384 laps.
I'd always supported them as the more flamboyant team at Le Mans against the 'boring' Germans and remember feeling absolutely devastated watching them going from certain victory to nothing. I recall watching the Baku F1 race in utter shock as I couldn't believe what had happened.
2017 was depressingly familiar with them again having two cars in the lead battle. I remember being at the pub and in the mere 40 minutes it took to drive home the Toyota challenge had gone from looking again like they'd have a good chance of winning to both lead cars retiring with clutch failure and accident damage.
In 2018 they finally won their first Le Mans 24 hours and have won every one of the races held since. But these were essentially 1 horse races with the Germans having packed their bags up and gone home after the VW emissions scandal.
They we're not the same as victories against the best teams and I'm sure this is the reason they continue waiting for Porsche, Audi etc to come back to Le Mans so eventually they can become true champions.
For that reason Le Mans 2016 still feels sore to this day.
One of the dirty secrets of American golf fandom is how many Americans actually root for the Europeans because so many American pros are unlikeable. How the fuck am I cheering for that cheat Patrick Reed or this douchebag Bryson DeChambeau? Long way from Fred Couples vs. Colin Montgomerie; it was much easier to be for the USA then. The 2012 Ryder Cup comeback by Europe known as the Miracle at Medinah . Gripping prolonged drama.
I don't think there are many. The Mosconi Cup in pool is based loosely on the Ryder Cup, as is the Weber Cup in ten-pin bowling. There's also the Solheim Cup for women golfers and the two long-running amateur golf tournaments, the Walker and Curtis Cups, but these last two are just GB and Ireland versus USA, as the Ryder Cup used to be.Again, golf is not normally a sport that I practise or take any interest in. I sort of follow the four majors, in a vague kind of way, was impressed by Tiger Woods winning the Masters two years back, and was pleased for the ‘old guy’ Mickelson recently.
But I always follow the Ryder Cup. I actually can't think of any other sporting event that pits Europe, collectively, against America, and I think that's part of what makes it so interesting. It's also just about the only thing that Europe really cooperates on. Even the Brits pitch in! By the way, after Brexit, is that going to change?
