Your very favourite City game of all time, and why?

City 1 Tottenham 0, FA cup quarter final 1969. First time I ever went to Maine Rd wrote a full account of it somewhere.
City 2 West Brom 1 League cup final 1970 at Wembley. First time at Wembley, first time in London and the first time I saw City win a trophy.
Many bigger occasions since but when your 12 and 13 everything seems magical, though I cried tears of joy when we won the cup in 2011.

Newcastle away in 1968. The first time I saw them win the league. You never forget your first time. ;-)

That was the open end, where Franny is celebrating the fourth goal, now the Gallowgate end. I was in the Leazes end, which is now where the away fans are placed. There were thousands of us in there too. Then, it was their version of, say, the Kippax. Oh, and also on the pitch after the final whistle!
I was in the stand behind the goal opposite the open end, where Franny celebrated. it was absolutely rammed with City and i have always thought i was in the away end. Incredible City support that day.

If I was pinned down and had a time capsule the three games I would most like to revisit would be Blackburn away to win promotion, QPR and Aston Villa to clinch the league

As a run of the mill games, no derbys, cup semis, promotion clinchers, title deciders etc, three which spring to mind are beating Spurs 5-2 under Brian Horton, the 4-0 victory over Leeds the year they won the title and the 2-1 victory over Stoke the year we were promoted in 1999 from div 2 which changed the course of the season.

Obvious, but hard to look past the 5-1.

I’d seen us win a couple of derbies as a child but that was the first one as an adult. And it was so unexpected. Not sure we’d won a single game up until that point.

Amazing to think now but it was our only derby victory between 1981 and 2002. And they say form goes out of the window in derbies.

A bit of a left field alternative for me would be beating Newcastle away in a League Cup replay in ‘94. More for personal reasons I won’t bore anyone with. But again totally unexpected.

Don’t know how many away cup victories I’d seen up to that point in my roughly 20 years watching City. But it wasn’t many.
