First reply was correct, you can't score an own goal from a free kick, goal kick, throw in or corner. A corner kick is awarded in all of these instances
i seem to recall liam ridgewell throwing the ball into his own net from a throw in when the keeper totally missed it and the goal stood so it aint true for throw ins i dont think (brum v villa i think)

46 LAW 15 – THE THROW-IN
A throw-in is a method of restarting play.
A throw-in is awarded to the opponents of the player who last touched the ball when the whole of the ball crosses the touch line, either on the ground or in the air.
A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in.

The above is correct BUT this goal was (wrongly) allowed:

Awarded to Enckelman. If he hadn't touched it it would not have counted.

Thanks 'Gelson's Dad.'

I didn't believe that the Keeper had touched it but, if he did, that explains it!

"A goal maybe scored directly from a goal kick but only against the opposing team."

Result - Corner.

No, Law 16 is quite specific, the ball must be in play for any ruling other than a retake

• The ball is in play when it is kicked directly out of the penalty area

If the ball is not kicked directly out of the penalty area from a goal kick:
• the kick is retaken

When the ball is out of play you cannot score an own goal direct from it. The result is a corner kick.

Also when the ball has left the field of play you cannot be offside from the restart (goal kick/ throw in).

Definitely a corner.

This got me thinking though that if a team is winning with a few minutes left, could they take goalkick after goalkick where they don't let the ball leave the penalty area? Would they be done for time wasting?

Ok You are the Ref.... (my lad asked me this last night)... A keeper is taking a goal kick, as he runs up he slips and mis-kicks and the ball trickles into an empty net... Is it a goal, retaken (as the ball hasn't gone out of the area) or a free-kick to the opposition ???

Genuinely don't know the answer...

Whichever end it happened it'll be a penalty for MANUre!

That was because either the ref made a mistake or the ref thought the keeper touched it

I recall reading one of the Shoot ones where a goalkeeper kicks out the ball from a goal kick, the wind catches hold of it and blows it into the goal. A corner was given as the correct answer.

Quick one, if a game is abandoned before the cut off for the score standing (70mins?) if a player is sent off does the suspension get written off with the score or does a subsequent ban stand? Was thinking this during last weekend’s games.
