Youtube Sucks

Anyone else notice the massive recent increase in ads when viewing Youtube? It's fucking awful. Worse than watching commercial TV.

It's recently to the point that a 1 hour Youtube viewing session mandates about 25 minutes of unskippable commercial content (or maybe more).

With any luck whatsoever another platform will emerge to offer Youtube competition. Fucking waste of my time to watch commercials for 25%+ for the content I'm interested in.
No. I watch a lot of stuff on Youtube and I use Brave as my web browser, which cuts out all the crap at source.

Sometimes I use Google if I don't mind the content provider earning a fraction of a penny and with adblocker installed, there are a couple of ads at the start in a foreign language I don't understand due to my VPN having me located in Denmark or somehere, then it's uninterrupted for the rest of the video.

It seems that how much Youtube obviously sucks depends on where you live or if you're willing to employ a VPN. Perhaps I should invest in a VPN.

That said, the vanilla experience in the USA (and I guess in the UK) is that Youtube sucks - so many ads - and tricks previously working to bypass ads, no longer work.

Firefox with adblocker. Not had an advert on YouTube for years.

I literally have Firefox only for YouTube at this point and the odd bit of dev work.

Cheers.

I mostly watch Youtube on Apple TV... so VPN would appear to be my only recourse at this point.

Thanks for that. Downloaded it and it seems very smooth and quick. I've been using Safari plus adblocker for the last 20 years but this seems like a big improvement.

Don't know if this still works but when you get a long ad on yt click on the information icon and click stop seeing ad. I takes you back to the video you was watching.

Firefox or the Brave browser?
I’m reading up on Brave at the moment because the level of ads now has now made watching anything a largely unbearable experience.

Anyone else using Brave? Any drawbacks to it? Any advice appreciated. Apparently it has additional crypto reward features but I assume I can disable/ignore those if I want. I’d probably use other browsers most of the time, but as far as YouTube is concerned, something’s gotta give.

I've used Brave for quite a while now. The ad block on YouTube doesn't work on the app but if you bookmark the Website and then log in it's fine. And yes, ad free. So works brilliantly on my pc and ad free on my tv/ phone if I go through Brave first.

I've been using Brave for years mate and it's absolutely fine and quick too. No more YouTube ads and you can play YouTube on your phone with the screen locked and in the background while doing other things on your phone.

It's good for streaming football too as it also fucks off all those shitty pop ups and ads on ya phone or laptop/pc.

It also blocks those annoying cookie notices and tells you how many trackers it blocks on websites, as well as how much data you've saved from not downloading additional crap on websites. It has dark mode if you use that and you can set your own home page when you open the app, i.e. my home page is google.co.uk so I can search straight away. And you can save websites as apps for your phone homescreen (on Android, dunno about iPhone).

I also use it for X as it blocks their ads too.

You can disable the crypto award stuff.

Thanks mate, appreciate the info in your reply. Last point esp as that was the only thing that was making me think twice, based on what I’d read so far.

Get it downloaded mate and have a play about. It's straight forward enough. You can set how aggressive you want it to be with the blocking and if you want YouTube on your phone and are able to add it to your homescreen then you can say goodbye to that cunty YouTube app.

Amazon sees this comment and raises you 1 billion pounds.

Still got a version of YouTube Revanced on my phone, so no ads, but it's becoming unwatchable on the TV. At least adverts in programmes are scheduled whereas on YouTube they can appear mid-sentence. I've even had the annoying sponsor but in the middle of it a video interrupted by an advert, many of which are now 50+seconds long.

Am trying Smarttube which blocks ads, but won't work directly on the TV so have to use the Google TV box for ot6

A friend of mine told me he can access Pornhub via Brave but not with Google ( unless he provides proof of age)
