Raheem Sterling - 2016/17 performances

Really? I think the way Sané is attacking, moving with pace behind the defence line with and without the ball and his shot efficiency is quite different from Raheem. That's just an honest view of Sané's ability. Nothing to do with Raz.

Why should that affect Sterling in any way? Or even denigrate. I can't see that.

Sterling has to improve a lot of aspects in his game. Technical ability, confidence, end product have to get better. For example the way Robben and Costa are cutting inside and score is a nice option to have.

That said Sterling is very important for City, he is working his ass off and he makes loads of assists. Still he has to improve a lot.

In hindsight I should've added the bit about social media to that quote. The usual thing you read on Twitter and the likes is that Sané is so much better than Sterling, there's no need to do Raheem down just to make the point that Sané is good.

Oh I see.
Those likes in social media are surely a non indicator of someones abilities...
You know, I think I'm the last one who never had a smartphone, and still I think I'm quite well informed ;-)

Is Raheem Sterling underrated? Man City winger deserves credit.

Big fan of this article by Adam Bate who seems to put out a lot of decent articles for sky.

Social media was alive with suggestions that Leroy Sane is "miles ahead" of Sterling after his performance at Sunderland. Seemingly the customary way of praising the German is to denigrate the chap on the other wing who just happened to set up the game's opening goal.
Particularly like this point which is something that's been really pissing me off recently.

Other good points would be that Dele Alli is the only player under 23 to contribute to more goals in the league, and only Ibrahimovic (having played 3 whole games more) has had more touches in the opposition box.

What a shit decision to not even have him on the bench. With him in the side today I'm sure we'd won. Easy to see how much we need him.

Pep doesn't make shit decisions though.

Sterling clearly had a 9.7% chance of stubbing his big toe on the advertising hoardings and so his team of analysts told him to keep him at home.

Yeah while I understand resting him, he should've at the very least been on the bench. He's provided the teams' breakthrough in the last 4 games and it showed in the game but its football the team should still be good enough to score without him.

I'm fine with Pep resting players because we do have a fixture pile up atm but thought Raheem should have at least been on the bench to bring on if needed. This game was crying out for his play

Why do we rest players so much?

For example; Messi, Suarez and Neymar start every game(unless injured) and they do alright.

For me it's not just the resting of players it's the resting of key players which then negatively impacts other key players. We have looked so dangerous from wide areas is recent weeks but resting Sterling and replacing with Navas for me also negatively impacts Aguero. We then see Silva rested which also negatively impacts Sane. If we are going to rotate I think we have to be more savvy than what we saw tonight.

Missed him more than Silva if I'm honest although we undoubtedly missed both. Taking two key attacking components out of the side was too much in terms of rotation and we paid for it in the end. Pep's learning about his players. I expect Sane, Toure, and KDB won't play against Boro. Hopefully Garcia will get the nod though.

I'd like to see Nolito get a start. Silva needs to play, as does Yaya. Fernandinho is so far off the boil at the moment it's alarming.

We could cope without Silva, the problem is that when you remove either Sterling or Sané, you don't just lose the player you're missing, you really hamstring the other. It's not a coincidence that Sterling's form has coincided with Sané's, and it's the 2 of them together that make the danger. Then when you consider that all our attacking play for the last 2 months has come through the wings.... it all falls apart.

Good again today, got another assist- not intentional but shhh.
Needs to work on his finishing/shooting as he completely fluffed three attempted shots in the match (the first of which that lead to Silva's goal was at a bad height, to be fair). Otherwise he showed exactly what we lose when he is not in the side. And also got absolutely not protection from the farce that was the officiating team today.
