City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

Doing one! They are supposed to be City fans, no excuses just stay and support the team, never used to happen in the Kippax

Totally agree i wouldnt leave early unless it was totally warranted. I noticed alot leaving at around the 80min mark yesterday, my lad asked are we going, to which i replied no not at all we stay and support the team till the final whistle. you pay for the 90mins so why not just stay is my opinion.

You totally missed the points I made as to why they do. " Never used to happen in the kippax!" As I said people and in particular football fans have changed massively since those days. Also it DID happen in the kippax it just wasn't as noticeable when it was standing.

The demographics of a football fan has changed immeasurably in the last thirty years. The more they treat fans like customers, create artificial " Match day experiences" clamp down on people standing, swearing and having a laugh you will see this more and more. Years ago football was the main event of people's week. Now it appears it is just one of many things they have to fit in. Modern technology has also changed the mindset of the human being too. Their boredom threshold and patience has lowered. Everything has to be instant and now and holding their interest in anything for long is difficult.

A game that is all but over with the team just passing it around conserving energy to many of them will be a non event, over and let's move onto something else so they do.
The passing it around and pissing about annoys me as well but I stay to watch it just in case the dozy buggers (including the coaching staff) remembers we won the league on GD in 2012 and qualified in 4th place last season by the same criteria.
At the moment the Dippers, Spuds and Chavs have better differences. The Arse are level but they have a chance to develop a better GD as they have two games in hand.
We need a couple of big wins and the next home game would be a nice place to start.

I just cant get my head round why people get a ticket then dont go then about 40 % who do turn up dont stay till the end .a few might have left the kippax early but not the 10s of thousands that now leave early

The result was decided, and the substitutes were trying too hard to impress. The crowd were singing about Benjani and Kevin Horlock, and the Grand National was starting at 5:15.
Don't really see a problem with leaving early.
Did you stop watching the national before they jumped the last fence :-)

Nope!
I’ve got no interest in Horse Racing.
However, when everyone around me, are either checking the Liverpool score, talking about what they did last night, or singing about SWP and Benjani, then it suggests that even those staying till the end, aren’t really watching the game.

Same here. Sends bad message to the players when fans start walking out. Game is not over. I've left on odd occasion and was tempted yesterday as there was a limited train timetable

Bit miffed with lots of empty seats in the family stand yesterday. I tried to book 4 tickets weeks ago only to be told the family stand was sold out so ended up in 3rd tier.

I can understand that a lot families may have gone away or couldn't make it which probably explains patches with 2,3,4 seats empty. although can't think why they wouldn't sell them back to the club to make some cash.

The thing that got my goat was there were several rows of about 20 to 30 seats empty. So presuming that these rows of seat don't belong to the Von trapps who do they belong to because this isnt the first time. Making it a bit frustrating when you're trying to get your kids in to football and your stuck on the back row of the 3rd tier while the people in front of you spend most of the time taking selfies.

Would like to think that the club wouldn't hold the tickets back for these rows and force people to buy in more expensive parts of the ground but nothing would surprise me anymore.

As for people leaving early. The argument will carry on forever until the council, the club and police put in an effective transport policy that will allow you to leave the stadium on 90 minutes without having to queue for a tram or wait for the road to reopen.

As others have said times have changed and people don't want to be waiting. Plus when talking about Maine road you have to remember that it was sandwiched on one side by Europe's busiest bus route and the main route into Manchester and motorway network on the other.

Those seats - towards the CB side of North Level 1 - are only full for the "big" games, which makes me think they're sponsors or staff seats. Makes a mockery of the club's obsession with filling Level 1 first for Cup games.

I had a pop at them again yesterday. There was a queue that had formed down the aisle and they were blocking people's views (one woman stood up and just held her arms out as they were just stood in front of her stopping her seeing the game) on the ends of rows so I told them that's what they were doing and they didn't half have sheepish looks on their faces - they'll still all do it next week in their hundreds as soon as 85mins ticks over

Suspected it was something like this and makes the whole idea of it being a family stand completely pointless.

Think the club really needs to take a long hard look at all it ticketing policies from the family stand to tourists in the away end. It needs to decide which it cares about more getting high scores on trip advisor for best day out or serving the community which it has done brilliantly in the past.

Have to say in fairness that the funday was really good and my kids enjoyed it so they do get it right some of the time.

I certainly agree with you about changing demographics and football no longer being the main event of many people's week. That accounts for much and I also there are a growing number of Blues who've just got into the habit of leaving early.

At games like yesterday when things were over after we scored the third I can understand it. When people are rushing out with a game still hanging in the balance I find it bizarre. It is like paying to watch a film and leaving before you find out what happens at the end.

The family stand had loads of empty seats all game, probably as others have said due to the kids being on holiday. As a rare two days hot weather was predicted a lot probably went away.

Games like yesterday which were a foregone conclusion once our third goal went in and both teams are just going through the motions seeing out the game you can understand people doing one.

the family stand needs moving or getting rid of. its always has loads of empty seats in it. kids on holiday, midweek game, 5.30 kick off....... whats the point in having it when its half empty most weeks. when it was the north stand it was full pretty much every game.

its weird though as in the past, when we were winning barely anyone left, it seems to be a recent thing imo. why pay all that money and then leave ten minutes before the end. its the same people every week swell.
