Unpopular opinion but I would prefer we get some cdm's who are more in the mould of busquets and Alonso like Jorginho paeredes weigl etc than carvalho and Fabinho.

Yaya's apparently about to sign a new contract, Gundogan is more than capable of playing that role and Fernandinho is going nowhere so I'd say it's not a priority right now. Goalkeeper and full backs are what we need to focus on right now.
Edit: Also, Aleix Garcia is that kind of player. Hopefully he'll make another step up and, even if not, he'd provide backup in an emergency.

Err...Isn't Carvalho exactly in that mould (I mean the type, not quality)? As for Fabinho, I share this concern with you. But I think Pep can try to change his style, right now he's far from being that kind of DM pivot. Edit: Jorginho is a second choice in Napoli, Paredes is weak defensively. Weigl just signed a new contract (and got severely injured).
Academies don't prepare players for this role as it's a relatively new thing in football. Hence the lack of players to choose from.
