Wasn't a problem for Cahill all season....But would it work playing a right footer as left centre back in a 3? They spend a lot of time out wide, particularly in the build up. We'd have to play Kolarov there. Or see if Mendy could do it... But then we'd have to play Kolarov as left wing back. Playing someone like Sané there would see him be too deep too often.

I think the story has serious merit, purely because both Joyce and Jacobs are behind it. Van Dijk would be phenomenal.

We were in talks with Celtic to buy him before he went to Saints, ridiculous we didn't conclude the deal at that time but hey ho that's city for you - why buy at £13mil when you can wait a couple of years and pay £50mil, lol.Saints fans joked last season that he was their best defender, midfielder and striker.
Well I hope it is true. If we're going for a foreign keeper it reduces the risk to go for an English based central defender, and he looks like the best available. Good age too.
Imagine if we get the full backs we've been linked with, Van Dijk, Ederson and Silva, and add to a settled Sane and Jesus!

He's an amazing CB, often cited as the best in the league, and would make an ideal partner to John (he can play on left despite being right footed) in the long term.
Not sure how much there is to this rumour, but we're definitely getting a CB and this is the kind of standard we need to be looking at.

It's a joint piece written by Jacobs and Joyce, both of whom are reliable. I'd definitely put stock in this.
Why would an article such as this need two writers?

Bonnuci would be a good signing also. But you have to consider his age and the fact he's never played in the prem (had to say it). He's always played with a class defence too. I think van dijk is the better signing of the two, but I wouldn't complain with either. We've made so many bad signings at centre back over the years, I finally think this is the one that could potentially replace Kompany.
