Please be a clarkie, please be a clarkie.
No.
5m isn't much but add that to his wages - I would say 7m would be a conservative estimate and you are looking at 12m for a back up full back for the year. If walker signs and is 1st choice, we would likely be paying around half a million per game for alves.

Had a think. Still against.

I might be ageist.

Or it might be that I really thought we had aspirations to catch Bayern and the two Spanish giants with Pep in charge and with signings like KDB and especially Gabriel Jesus we had started to take players that some of those three would have wanted.

I don't think they would want him now in their wildest dreams. An upgrade on what we had is not good enough to achieve the highest honours

I also think he will play (a lot) or else what's the point? Are we freely admitting that under normal circumstances he won't play? Our squad needs to have great players on the bench to catch the three big guns.

I will say he is remarkably good for his age but it's not building for the future or challenging the very top in my opinion. He could have one great season for us but that still doesn't solve the problem we have had for ages.

I don't remember many blues putting Alves forward as someone they wanted before now but as soon as it looks like he's coming it's suddenly an obvious brilliant move.

However, even though Pep has seemingly done the exact opposite of what he has been saying all season with this signing, he is a genius in my eyes so I'm proper confused.

I think your post is completely out of the context of the reality.

He's likely coming in with Walker, Mendy and Bertrend. Three prime full backs.

I could understand your post if he was the only signing but he won't be so what you say doesn't really make sense.

We want to be as good as Barcelona and Bayern.

But you don't want someone who was MOTM and completely decided 2 champions league semi finals 2 months ago, and was one of the few Juve players who turned up in the final.
Did he? If that's the case then it is a no-brainer.

He's 34 , you pretend it's what we all wanted if you like , I live in the real world , it's a 2008 type signing .

34 and was the best RB in the CL (you know that little trophy our owners are kind of desperate to win) just a few months ago. You're acting like we're buying a 34 year old who is clearly past it. Alves has proven he still has it.

This is one of the dumbest comments I've seen on here for a while.

It's like you think that if you keep repeating the same bollocks hell stop being the player who won the CL semi final getting MOTM in both games and was probably Juves best player in the final.

But some players do just go and on. Obviously he wont be the player he was when he left Barca but if he's 80% that's still some player.

There some players whose game falls off a cliff at 30 let alone 34, but some can go on and on. There are some 100m printers like Kim Collins who were running 100m at 40 in 10 seconds.

That sounds a lot like Zabaleta's and Sagna's wages for one year.

He actually looked really good in the CL and still clearly one of the best left backs in the world, however no disrespect to Serie A but it seems a lot more friendly to old legs than the premier league and unless we are paying a modest wage with the view that our other fullbacks can learn a great deal from him then I'm not sure it's the right signing if we are paying the big bucks on wages we want players with legs to challenge for a place week in week out.

You seem to be under the impression that Alves is the only RB we will sign.

No I have said the opposite. I think we need a strong squad for now and the future so even if he does share the role I don't think he is the long term answer.

Let me guess this right, some people aren't happy we might be buying dani alves?! Have those whinging watched him play recently? The guys a machine at both ends
