Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe plays for the French national side and had a great CL showing. Are Foden and Brahim anywhere near their national team? 18 year olds aren't all created equally, look at Jesus (winning stuff in Brazil) and back in the day Shredded wheat head.

Your missing my point entirely (as are the other posters) - my problem with what Almr is that he is basically saying that Foden and Brahim are too young to be given a chance, yet at the same time he thinks none of his critiques of Foden and Brahmin apply to Mbappe despite only being a few months older. He also misses that Mbappe was given his chance at the same age as Foden is now and that is why we are now willing to spend big money on him.

And again to reiterate I think we should sign Mbappe

I'll have this kid no danger, I'll have his fee and wages, but I can't fathom the utter disregard and ease at which many think getting Sergio down the road is ok, he's just given us another season of plenty, in a season of failure and trial and error.
I honestly believe with the addition of fullbacks, sane for a full season, gundogan fit, Bernardo and a partnership with Jesus that Sergio could piss 40 goals, to even contemplate his sale at this time beggars belief.

I think there's no chance that we could get both. Getting just one of them would be a huge bonus for the season ahead.

Do you think we're waiting to see how it plays out with Alexis? That's how I see it.

They are both still 17 and Mbappé turned 18 in December while also having the advantage of being relatively tall and more physically developed for his age.

Seriously he's a great player for his age but the Mbappé hype is ridiculous(gets even better in peoples heads when he's not even been playing football recently), before last season he was considered a top young prospect(among many)... not a future Ballon D' Or winner since birth or any other bollocks being spouted... top clubs are in for the top young tallent for their academies it's that simple there's many cases like that. There's no point acting like it was out of the norm for City or Real Madrid to be interested before last season either. The fee and the hype have reached ridiculous levels and it's more amusing watching people failing miserably to justify it.

If we land him fair enough, there's good and bad in it... lets not act deluded about the fee being reasonable or justified(we just live in crazy times for football and that's it) or we'll embarrass ourselves as a fanbase, I always think of how our fans would react if the shoe was on the other foot in situations like this.

If he had gone to Madrid at 14, He would be in some C team of second division right now

I doubt that, Madrid's handling of young players recently is what City dream of doing.

Young players bought for peanuts like Asensio (€4m) or Jesus Vallejo (€6m) loaned out for a season or two and then brought back into the team.

Academy players like Mayoral or Mariano getting chances in the first team even if they're moved on.

They have at least 3 academy payers in the squad next season who will see serious game time.

All of that falls down when you remember we bid 40m for him last year as a 17 year old...it wasn't some "picking up a youth player" bid, it was a massive offer and it was rejected flat out.

Was that ever confirmed? I find it hard to believe personally the fee itself would suggest we were ready to throw him into a PL first team on his debut season... smells like bullshit. Even if it was none of that falls down... Martial was the same... there will be more to follow but feel free to delude yourself with this birthright/future set in stone nonsense. We also heard the exact same thing with Jesus... and he too could well turn out to be the Ballon D'Or king but the point is it's never that simple and you need a pinch of salt sometimes or you'll get carried away on the hype train.

Anyone around 18-22 right now may be good but have a looong way to go before being considered best in the world or on the level of a Messi or Ronaldo.

Because Jesus thinks he his top dog (young players).. you think he will be happy to be in Mbappe shadow...and he will be purely because of the transfer fee
And you know jesus thinks this how ? where has he ever stated that he thinks he's top dog ?

I think his point is that Foden and Diaz are unlikely to be given as much game time as Mbappe got last season as the pressure on us is much higher than was on Monaco, he's had a season and half to develop without the expectations that come with being here in our current guise. Ideally we'd throw Diaz and Foden in for a few minutes at a time this season, them play more regularly next, something Mbappe was able to do last season and the previous one. Also he's a much bigger physical specimen than the two lads here so he's got an advantage over them in that regard, similar to when Shrek started out.

It was reported by most pretty reliable newspapers here and in France, I guess you never really know, but I'm not sure what more confirmation is really possible outside Guardiola or someone mentioning it if we were to sign him.

We spent £30m on Jesus after he'd played about 20 league games, and he was more than ready to come into the team by the time he got here 6 months later having really exploded after we bought him. I don't find it hard to believe Guardiola would have done similar with Mbappé. He sees talent and goes all in.

At the end of the day, I trust Guardiola and his staff to identify special talent, so if he says Mbappé is going to be the best striker of his generation, I hope the club backs him with the money to get that player here. It's made a lot easier to trust him when everyone's interested, and Jesus coming and making such an impact is similarly reassuring.

Like I said it's not that I don't want him but if we sign him we can't really defend the fee(wages I'll wait and see on) we wouldn't have it if any other PL team did it... but at least we'll have him and arguably the most lethal attack in Europe for years to come hopefully. If our board says it's just too much for an 18year old(well they wouldn't say anything he'll just end up at Real Madrid) then I hope everyone will see sense and no dummies are spat out at Txiki over it, maybe even look at the positives of not spending so much on him.

I'm still going to be buzzing about our future even if the window ended today(ok maybe one experienced CB before that) if we manage to get Sanchez we still might just have the most lethal attack in Europe next season.

Even though I consider Sanchez to be one of the best five players in the league, I personally would prefer Mbappe. He would be devastating in the premier league, especially playing alongside the likes of D Silva, B Silva and De Bruyne.

Could this be the touted world record bid we were to believe would be made, it looks as though we are potentially weighing this one up according to what we are reading

I appreciate that we are a long way from tattoo-time - but I actually feel physically sick just thinking of the implications of what signing this fella would mean for this Club and our position in the global game. Astonishing if it comes off.
