Clive Allen is one of the most famous examples of this. Went to Arsenal in '81 for £1.25M. Never played in a competitive game, although he played in 3 pre-season games, and was then involved in a straight swap, with Palace, for Kenny Samson.

What happens if Arsenal are nowhere near the top 4 come January & he still hasn't signed a contract? by then it'll be the last chance for Arsenal to get a few million for him rather than zero come the end of the season! Don't think they'd have a choice! Playing a dangerous game holding on to him if you ask me! But could be it works for you! Only time will tell lol
