It's a fair way to think about it but there aren't many of those if you can believe it. Last season in the league the only three games where Tottenham struggled and Harry Kane made a decisive contribution that wasn't a penalty realistically were the Sunderland game at home and the West Ham game at home, even then his second was a penalty. In games they drew he only made a decisive contribution from the spot. In the season before the stats are even bleaker on that front, except in a couple games referenced in the larger post above (His Liverpool goal in 15/16 was genuinely world class I admit).
My general point about Harry Kane is he is a win bigger kind of player. I mean that if you're playing in a way where you're the better side and should probably or even just possibly win, he'll punish you and do excellently, regardless of who you are. In a side as good as Tottenham that's a regular occurence. That's why he has a habit of scoring braces and hattricks. It's a testament to how good he is that he's so consistent at it.
But every now and again Tottenham play a side that somehow stifle them. A side which cuts of the supply lines and/or pins them back. A good example might be our home draw against them last season. We completely cut them off and dominated proceedings, and their goals only came from poor defending ultimately. But the point is that in that game, Kane didn't exactly have any chances to score. Now that he didn't actually score is not a stick to beat him with I admit. Anything can happen in one game. It's just he doesn't tend to score in ANY game like that. Like the away loss to Liverpool last season too. Do you not think a truly world class player would maybe do something incredible in the odd few games? Because that's what world class players do, they defy the odds against them and somehow come up with the goods. It's something we see players like Messi and Ronaldo do all too often. Aguero has had a habit of doing it. Not many do it but that's why they're world class.
Please don't assume 'm denying his talent. Just because I don't think he's world class doesn't mean I think he's shit. It literally just means I do not hold him in the same regard as the absolute best strikers out there. He's still brilliant though.
They almost certainly will
Yeah he is great I'd happily have him at City even if the opportunity ever arose. But I just feel that he is not world class. Why's that such a problem?
As I've said btw, it's not a case of struggling in a shit team. It's a case of the odd few games where his already very good side struggle to create chances. As in a side good enough to have supposedly brilliant players who can do brilliant things. In theory even when they struggle they should have players who can bail them out even when it's looking unlikely. In fact they do. It's just that it's almost never Kane. In fact it was almost always one of Alli or Son.
