How many points to win the league?

Another utterly cringeworthy and presumptuos thread. Save the celebrating for when/if we win something.

Mods - you’re doing this board no favours by allowing this shite.

You knew what the thread was about, so if you didn't like it, why not stay out.
No. You thought you'd be the moral compass of the site and shit stir.

Not Doubting you,Ive got tickets assuming that, but where did they confirm it ?
Does that still apply if like last season a postponed home game happens after Huddersfield?
If a postponed game is played after Huddersfield and the "last match" rule still applies then you might find a lot of people suddenly capable of attending a midweek fixture.

possibly brihgton or swansea at home if we stay in FA Cup could be after hudders

So chelsea are 15 points behind, with 15 games to play, so need 1 point more then us, in every game, to match us (and we have a game more to play).

Realistically the best they can hope for is to finish with 85 points now 12-2-1 but lets face it that is not going to happen.

Liverpool need to go 13-2-1 to finish on 85 points.

Manure need to go 12-2-2 to finish on 85 points.

I will include Spurs for illustration only but assuming they win today they need to go 13-2-0 to finish on 85 points.

Is it starting to become painfully obvious that 85 points is going to win the title this year.

What the likes of Tolmie is saying that its going to be a test without Sanchez for us to secure 23 points from our last 16 games.

Like seeing it put like that.

And you have to understand that all these sides have to face each other as well and of course at least one side must drop points namely 3 or both sides drop 2.

Who would put decent money on Manure going 12-2-2 from now on and again if they do they finish on 85 points yes 85 points.

They have to play Chelsea , Spurs , Liverpool , Arsenal and the title winners elect.

They have dropped points in 8 of their 22 games to date and given their fixtures to drop points in 4 of their last 16 is far more likely than not.

We need 1.4375 points per game to get to 85 points, that's worse than Burnley so far (no disrespect to them who are having a pretty good season).

38 more points from 15/16 games looks a tall order for the rest of them imho.

United need 2.375 points per game (2.14 so far)
Chelsea 2.5333 (2.04)
Liverpool 2.5625 (2.00)
Spu...forget the rest.

Whilst agreeing there is a high probability 85 points will be enough, sometimes crazy runs follow relatively poor performance. Look at Liverpool in 13/14 - 36 points in the 1st 19 games and then 48 points in the 2nd 19 games and a record of 15-3-1.

Pity for them then, that they don't have 19 games left ;-)

For Liverpool to get to 85 points, they have to lose less than 0.5 points per game, from now till May, so any draw is worth more than 4 games, and a defeat more than 6 games. They won't win them all, or get close to winning them all, nobody will.

I look at it that there are 16 matches to go, and City need to lose 5 to restore parity as of now, and that requires the next team to win all 5.
After that, you'd assume that every team will drop 4 points at least in those 15-16 matches, meaning City need to lose another 2 (at least).

So 7 defeats in 16 matches to even open the door.

So in essence 8 wins?
Average needed in last 10 seasons has been 87.
That's the average points of the team in first, very few teams will have finished second on 86 or more points and I can't see any of the pack this year doing it. Chavs dropped points today, rags have Spurs away in a few games and they'll all drop points when the CL starts again.
