Quick question ?

Are they putting an extra block in east and west stand closing the gap to the scoreboard ?

Yeah. There's a small block attached to the end of CB and East upper.

Can't believe we're pissing about adding extra rows to the front when we could join the stands together at two corners rather than having 4 scoreboards we have 2. Simples. Why do we need 4? Nobody else has four!!! Better still would be to join the whole lot together and have the scoreboards/screens at each end of the stadium on the roof? If the roof can't support this, build another structure from the ground to come over the roof to hold the screens.

I worry that we'll end up with a stadium that looks cobbled together rather than purpose-built. If money's no object then we should be looking to maximize capacity in conjunction with cutting-edge design and not ending up with something that looks 'stuck on'.

So you worry that we will have a stadium that looks cobbled together (ignoring the released images that show that it doesnt) but you want to rebuild the roof or add a further structure to support some new screens?

I reckon you're a bit guilty of over thinking things there fella.

IMHO fbloke, it does. The outside now is a perfect elipse. When the work's done it'll be an odd shape. Ditto the roof structure. Internally the top tiers of the N and S Stands do, to me. look like an afterthought purely because they don't join up to anything.

Whilst I'm not unhappy that we're getting as bigger stadium I feel that it's being done in a haphazard kind of way. I'm sure if the stadium was in Abu Dhabi then it would have been designed with a bit more 'wow factor'.

I do understand what you're saying but there will be a an set of images somewhere that show a stadium with a capacity of 80k+ with a perfectly shaped roof and that is something that will inform the look and feel of the 60k+ version.

It's not being built from scratch. And anyway I think the above pictures are stunning.

That was indeed the first thought of the owners - that The Etihad didn't have the "wow factor". I understand that alternatives were looked at but for various reasons the extension of the current stadium was the reluctant choice.

I think the images show a vast improvement on what is presently a well designed stadium but it's a bit bland and a bit grey - I think a few things were scaled back when the contractor was changed during construction. Looking at the plans I just can't help feeling we have missed a chance to make a statement by building an iconic stadium - in line with the next generation of stadiums being proposed by Real Madrid etc. these plans will create a fantastic stadium but it won't stand out in comparison to Europe's top ten stadiums in say 20 years time. That said when it's finished it will rival anything in the UK.

You say that but one thing that surprised me reading City fans who came back from Barcelona was that the Nou Camp was a dump

Wembley is an amazing stadium inside but it would be quite something for City to have the best ground in the Premier League

The Nou Camp is a dump and a dump with no roof, hardly any corporate provision and crumbling concrete at the edges of safety concerns.

But its 'iconic'.

Barca are desperate to redevelop though but dont have the money, especially as they now have to pay tax on things ;-)

Stadiums are iconic because of what happens at them, not what they look like. The Westfalenstadion is hardly beautiful, but it's extremely impressive and intimidating when full.

Bit of bump.

Nothing new.

But plans for Everton's new stadium including a Dortmund style yellow wall stand behind one goal have been released. Spurs are also doing something similar with their new stadium. United have the Stretford End. Liverpool have the KOP. We have the North stand waiting to be redeveloped. I think the redevelopment and design is obvious. One single safe standing stand. Leave the rest of the Etihad seating. 40,000 seating/20,000 safe standing (North Stand) split.

I sincerely hope the people running the club don't go for a 2 or 3 tier safe standing and seating option for any North stand redevelopment. As a club we have one more final chance to create a stand for the fans to stand and to support the team, while allowing other City fans who would prefer to sit and to watch the match to do so in the other 3 stands.

That’s would be a good shout if we can do that in the north stand and relocate the singing section we need a wall of noise. Also £299 a season ticket would be a good shout.

But their yellow well will be painted wood.

Some cracking restricted views at Maine Road, maybe we can incorporate some into the expanded North Stand when it happens. Something has to support the water slides.
It wasn't a bad thing that you couldn't always see what was going on , on the pitch at Maine road though !
