Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Well I think that clears up who is right and who doesn't have a fucking clue. Rashford was shite all match, heavy touch after heavy touch, missed the most important chance of the game and it was an absolute sitter, didn't even look like it needed a touch from the keeper.

So you sneering cretins digging blues out over this all the time, who are predictably quiet tonight have only one thing to answer today, did he get criticised "just the same"?

No he fucking didn't just as we called it, so stop telling us otherwise in future(you've no clue) until he is treated like the other England players are we'll keep pointing these double standards out.

Hear hear

Actually to be totally fair Rashford simply missed a sitter when it really mattered and that would have counted. He also struggled to influence the game for the majority of it... so not "shite" and he was full of running I'll give him that but that performance was worse than Sterling's so called awful performances so far.

It's tricky not to redirect a lot of the annoyance that comes with the double standards but clearly Sterling is the better choice for the starting line-up.

Rashford does look good coming off the bench and he has that surprise goal from distance in him. So if it's not working for Sterling in a game then I'm all for him being subbed for him. There's also scenario where Lingard or a player in another position Sterling can drop into is having a far worse performance which Southgate seems unwilling to try.

Bang on... Hoddles first comment after that terrible miss, was something along the lines of Rashford is making great runs, their really dangerous. If that would have been Sterling, he'd have still been going on about a terrible miss on World Cup extra time an hour later. Twats the lot of them... the double standards shown to Sterling are scandalous...

Straws!! Get your straws here!! Anyone need a straw to clutch.

I have never in my life seen so much shit when it comes to defending Sterling. The way the media and most pundits are biased against him the majority on here swing the opposite way to the point barely anyone can be impartial on the subject. A spinning ball? Oh diddums, fuck me I can't believe half the shit on here. Best bit is when Lingard missed a hatful the first game I didn't see one poster talk about how the ball was passed to him or any dodgy ball spins. Get a grip you girls.

Ok, please feel free to highlight the media desperation to replace the frankly awful Darren Huckerby impersonation with the league's stand out winger.

If you can find such a clamour to replace Rashford with Sterling as vice versa you may look impartial, if you now agree that Sterling is judged by a far different yard stick you may look impartial. If you continue to believe that Sterling is treated the same. We can just all laugh at you.

You say Sterling had been rightly critisesed, I'm sure there's similar criticism of Rashford????

Alan Shearer

Former Newcastle striker on BBC Radio 5 live

What an opportunity for Marcus Rashford tonight. If he is to score goal or two, then he gives the manager a serious problem for the next game, in terms of selection ahead of Raheem Sterling.

Headache over. Not 1 elite manager would chose Huckerby over Sterling.

Excellent post , idiots like Tom who accuse bluemooners of defending Sterling at any cost , obviously have not got the ability to read and understand basic english language , the majority of our supporters have concluded Raheem in nowhere near as effective for England , but our gripes are when Golden Boy Rashford misses sitters and produces absolutely no end product the media and pundits say nowt and in fact praise him.
We are not defending Sterling , we are highlighting the agenda of the media and how they driving the Rashford v Sterling issue for a starting place for England , i actually think Sterling has been average at best , but Rashford has been the poorer of the two , Vardy deserves a run in the team , i do not particularly like him as a player , but he takes his chances and although ineffective against Belgium he was playing in a "reserve" team effectively

Tom mufc you’ve really missed the whole point of this thread. I’m actually beginning to think you’re just having a laugh with us all on here, throwing in the odd Raz praise amongst all the slagging off, just to keep this wind up going.

Some nobhead journa from some obscure paper tweeted last night ‘how can manchester city with all their wealth, have the 2worst players at the world cup in Delph and Sterling’

I shit you not. I nearly responded but resisted the imbecile

Lets put this into another context with the way these 2 have played at club level. Put either delph and raz in the spanish team who play similar to us and they would fit right in.

Put any of the other england players in the spanish team and they wouldnt have a fucking clue

Dont rise to it. We know the truth as do they

Exactly. I'm done with England.

Genuinely don't care anymore.
You’re done with England because the media are wankers? Why don’t you just look at it from Southgate’s angle and see that he rested all his best players last night and will put them all back in next week; Raheem being one of those players! From what Southgate has said and done so far I think Raheem is one of his favourites. He’ll be important for England and will shut these fucking arseholes up once and for all soon because Southgate will give him the chance to.

Anything else is a side issue the dullards get upset about. Nothing the media says matters, why this forum places so much importance on it baffles me. I’m beginning to think half of this place are idiots. I mean, genuinely, how can so many get sucked in by the bollocks they write and say. If every single one of you ignored it, their ammo would be like firing shots at people in an empty field. But I think the emptiness is in people’s heads when they give so much importance to the media. Every one of you that places importance on the media’s words start filling that field up with people to shoot at.

Now that is exactly the point and I agree wholeheartedly about both Delph and Sterling and their ability to integrate into other world class teams.
Perhaps the problem is that England, like most National sides, are simply not as collectively good as the best Club sides.

True mossie but it riles my blood at the minute. Fucking relentess assanation jobs on our players and our club whenever the opportunity arises

Spot on SF.

I’m not sure that’s right. It isn’t that a true Blue believes the media, it’s more the natural gut reaction when something you Love is insulted for absolutely no reason. City fans make up a small proportion of the media target market and the great unwashed are listening to the shite that’s spouted against our club and it’s players.

You are right of course but the thread title is about the media.
We as City fans have always been in the minority when others were more successful on the field of play so we deserved the scoffing, laughter and sometimes abuse we got from the press and other fans. We even laughed at ourselves.
Times have changed and we now rule the PL but the media has not because its subscription base lags and needs fake news to appease its false sense of superiority over the joke of a team City used to be.
We will never get fairness if it involves anything that will not sell papers or viewing figures.
I agree with your suggestion that the media should be ignored but understand fully why we expect fairness. A mentor once advised me many years ago to only solve problems and not to waste my time on facts of life. I see Pool, United etc as still having many more fans than we have so that is my fact of life.

I genuinely don't understand how Hoddle keeps this gig? I mean ITV is a business right, so employing him and his boring, inane, out of date tactically, out of touch socially comments, well someone senior in ITV Sport thinks that's a good business decision. I'd really love to hear why

Spot on.

However the dynamics are changing but it will probably take a generation. We are now seeing the likes of Pablo, Dunnie and Joleon in TV studios. Yes it is still dominated by ex-Liverpool Arsenal and United players but things are beginning to shift

The written media is failing and within 20 years I dont not think it will exist. Young people used to read what their parents read and buy the same paper the last generation to buy and read a daily paper is gradually dying off. The generation of 20/30's do not buy papers on the whole but get their information online and from a variety of sources not just a few UK papers

As City becomes established over a period of time as a successful club the way it and its players are treated and portrayed by the media will change and I dont think you will ever see the persecution of a player the way the media have persecuted Sterling. I dont expect a clamour to have Rashford ahead of Sterling in the next game

I wonder what Shearer thought of Rashford last night and whether he should now replace Sterling?
