Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

There doesn't have to be an either or an alternative factor to racism playing a part. It's perfectly acceptable snd accurate to consider racism alongside a whole host of factors that may be underpinning the agenda against sterling.
It's one of them, not all of them. They've hit him from all sides, he's nothing acceptable to everyone all of the time. Apart from the (just about)majority of blues and a few people intelligent enough to ignore the media.

As usual, people are trying to find a one-size fits all explanation, whereas the answer is more nuanced. Sometimes it will be racist, sometimes because he plays for City, sometimes a combination of the two, all overarched by the fact that he’s a soft target (due to the two foregoing factors).

Not sure why people are so prepared to die in a ditch over this debate, as both explanations are meritorious and not mutually exclusive.

Not disputing it,and i might not have made that clear.I just got the impression for some it was the sole reason.
Nah, others have nailed it better than me, my view is that this shitshit invo a whole host of issues, some serious like racism, some not, like people sometimes acting like sheep, can't think for themselves and being daft. I'm not gonna be a hypocrite though what you've posted today is exactly what I have been on about for a while. There needs to be room for an alternative or slightly different view being expressed Without it were fucked we can't examine and can't begin to see where others are coming from or get to the nub of what the uncomfotable reality may be behind some of these issues. So your alright with me mate, so is Marvin said, for that matter.

He left a media darling club - tribal
Joined City - tribal
Black - racist
Born overseas - nationalist
More money than most - envy
Just was part of the team that's put the league to shame - nationalist/jingoistic
Idiotic football media and fans want him to do the same for the England squad in a different role - general stupidity
Concerted media effort from dipper mafia to build hatred against him -tribal
Keeping 'the biggest club in the world's' latest next something out of the squad (apparently) - tribal

Cue the daily 3 minute hate.

Like it or not, the media control the narrative and the easiest way to a story is to play on contrasts and differences.

Pretty sure I got most of the reasons he's scapegoat, going for an all (societies insecurities) fits all solution.

You're right.

Yeah, you’ve just about nailed it there (apart from his idiosyncratic mutton chops)
Now, look, some of us have sideburns that grow extremely fucking quickly and add far more work into shaving than should ever be needed, people should not be judged on this. If the rest of the face needs shaved every couple of days and the muttonchops twice a day then you should be allowed to wear them without judgement.

Especially from Joe Dirt scouse fuckers that couldn't grow a muttonchop to save their lives.

That post nails it mate.

How do you think it will go? Just like anywhere else, I would imagine.

It's rag country down there. My former son-in-law was from Sussex.

I'm not hopeful, it's a strange little place, very affluent, several privately owned/managed estates along the coast between Worthing and Littlehampton. Des Lynam lives there, average house price has to be 1 million plus, but you go in the pub and it's full of knobheads so almost certainly 'rag country'. Can't decide on lucky England shirt or City polo!

A mate many years ago used to call anyone who was being a dick " a sheep's head", we went into a boozer in Marple and a local got the proverbial "sheep's head" reposte, he fired back with "mutton wrong with that" very funny at the time with a good few beers, unsure if it translates to the Internet generation.

You had to be there with a few beers and understand the characters involved and have a sense of humour, something that obviously doesn't translate, I was about 20 at the time with about 8 mates and we all fell about laughing, long time ago but give it a go, it may help you feel better.

What he said below me. I'm not internet generation either, that's the one after me.

Okay. Okay, already ;0)

Quite sure another poster has already the blatantly obvious :

Dippers hate him because he deemed to leave their cult of a club to win trophies and improve his remuneration

Rags hate him because he is keeping Golden Boy out of the England team

The above represent a big percentage of the armchair experts who have never been to a football match , they will type away in angst on their keyboards , spewing their vitriol and hate towards Sterling , the shite player ratings along with the Rag & Dippers media bandwagon its clear RS is on a hiding to nothing , if Raheem did a Geoff Hurst in the World Cup Final these moronic plebs would still give him the lowest player rating . But looking at this thread it bothers our supporters far more than Raheem , credit to the lad because nothing fazes him , he still gives 100% for England and takes all the criticism in his stride. By all accounts Raheem had a tough upbringing so the knobheads amongst the English support and the dickhead media hacks simply will not win , he is a brilliant player who is improving with every game and destined for greater things playing for the greatest football club

For the record again it was you that introduced the concept of a comparator, not me. Secondly have a look through my thread where I have been clear that many factors are involved in this agenda of which racism is a factor. It's a difficult issue to defend from where you are coming from, so I can understand why you feel the matter has run its course. But I'm happy to discuss this or any other matter with you in future. Nevertheless if you doubt the veracity of my point of view. Have a look at the opinion piece below from a fairly well regarded British newspaper. Cheers

we clearly disagree and I dont take issue with that as we all have opinions but, I will leave you with one final question. If Sterling were still a pool player, do you believe he would still be getting all this negative press?

Fools of a feather flock together.

No chance he would be getting this shit if he was still at Liverpool. Sterling remaining at Liverpool would have underpinned an established racist narrative for some that black people need to know there place, stop being uppity, or be deserving of the opportunity they have been given rather than rocking the boat. It's not even though he ran down his fee at Liverpool they got a good chunk of money for him. Mc manaman ran down his contract and left on a free to move to a better club and although criticised received nothing by way of the treatment sterling is getting. Milner fucked us around ran down his contract and was clear he felt he was moving to a better and bigger club, but he was given no grief whatsoever by the media or wider football community. Suarez left Liverpool at the height of his powers, no criticism on the scale of sterling. Finally Couthinio left last year for similiar reasons to sterling, not a fucking peep out of anybody. You can sit comfortably in your position that we will have to disagree that's your right and your welcome to it. However, facts still matter and their clear for those who want to see them.
