Maguire is a decent defender, but their signings lack so much imagination. Martial was the last truly bold signing they made iirc.

Edit: you could count Pogba as bold, but for different reasons.

I’d agree with that in the last few years. Fair play to Taggart though: he had a seriously dodgy period on the transfer market after the CL win in 1999, (some of those purchases I’ve always had questions around) but then he pulled it back around 2005 (I’m guessing) with some great signings.

No doubting Maguires ability. He’s a good defender but always looks like he wants to kill everything that moves. Thing is though, £75m? Really?!
Could he handle the pressure of such a move? I’m not so sure. I think the daft twats will pay it regardless.
