Running thread

Just been out for my first run in about a month. Only a short one - I'd say less than 2 miles - and had to stop a couple of times to get my breath back but it's a start (again).
Won't get up to racing again but completing a parkrun and shifting some weight will be an achievement. Will try for 4 runs a week and up the distance each time

Feeling super satisfied right now. pigged out all day and had every intention of slobbing out in front of the TV tonight, decided i felt like shit so got up off my lazy ass and ran....breaking my 5k and 10k records in the process! (21.55 for the 5k and 45.17 for 10k)

Cheers! Sunday is usually my day off running but the wife was out so I thought why not, and I'm glad I did.

Ran the inaugural Carlisle Half Marathon this morning. Missed about 7 weeks of training due to injury so was really chuffed when I came in at 1:53. Legs are killing now!

I’m training for a half marathon but the Trainers I have are on the last legs.
Any recommendations for a robust set of running trainers for regular long distance runs and what shop/website to use? Cheers in advance

Get a gait anlaysis and get ones that suit you, not somebody else.
Run north west will be good - I've not been in since it changed from sweatshop but the people running it know their stuff.

20 bloody minutes? This thread is really starting to Piss me off?!!

Don't worry mate, there is still normal people on here! I did my first 10k today. 1hr 9mins.
It's took me since February to build to 5k. Did 7k last week so decided to try going further. Took is very easy to avoid injuries. Felt really good and in control.
I've no doubt i could have done it faster, but that wasn't the goal. In fact i found myself in a zone where i think i could have run for much longer. Which is a surprise as i normally feel like stopping about 30 seconds into the run!

I used to run with Royton road runners for a while, but I got pissed off because everyone seemed to be osessed with times. Culminated in watching a girl crying her eyes out after doing 10k in 1hr 1 min. She had been training for a couple of months to do a sub 1 hour 10k. it baffled me that she'd ran a 10k which the majority of the population haven't/can't but seen the whole training and race day as a complete failure

I did a marathon and I regard it as one of the worst days of my life because I didn't get under 3:30

Do you not accept that completing a marathon is an amazing achievement in itself?
No. I'd done 23 miles in training. I could have done an extra 3 miles that day to do a marathon.
marathon day was all about getting the time, that's what I'd given up 5 months of my life for. I would go out at weekend and not drink or miss city away games so that I could do long run - all for achieving the time.
What makes it worse was I was in course for 3:14 at 18 miles and got cramp when I bent down and then it all fell apart.

I wanted 3:45 on my first one earlier this year, the race being the day after the home derby didn’t help as I ended up having half a dozen pints though I’d sworn I wouldn’t drink, couldn’t sleep due to loads going through my head. Ended up setting off too fast, 8 minute mile pace and was fucked at 19 miles or so. Ended up at 3:59:21 which I was happy with but also disappointed. I know what @oldhamblue means but see where you’re coming from.

Sterling’s fault!!

I've started a ruuning group on a Weds night with quite a few lads who are just starting to run and it's made me realise that I was a little obsessed with times and had forgotten what was important, making the effort to put the running shoes on and leaving the house!!!!

I have my first race of the year on Sunday with the Salford 10K and looking forward to it-not worried about the time.

I'm going for under 45 minutes!! I know what you mean about times mate, can be obsessive though.

These are my ones - will last me a good couple years
