Pep made a mistake tonight playing Eric at LB. After Klanfield last year, presumably a mistake he won't make again.
He made a superb interception in the middle and that’s where he needs to be.Brilliant CB, below average LB. Personally he's the first CB on the sheet for me, maybe just because he's the only lefty, but he's been great at CB since we signed him.
He played well when his centre half abilities were required, thats not in doubt. He made a superb interception in the middle and that’s where he needs to be.
He doesn’t! They play different positions!
Lasereyes...fail to see. Funny stuff!!
I think he is ok. Still think both Stones and Ota' are better CBs. But he is first choice at LCB for me
Kompany is the last of the 4 for me. His passing out of the back is pedestrian compared to the others. He's young and could develop. Can pick out some great long passes. But currently likely to struggle against top teams with strong forward lines (i.e. Sunday). Kompany's looking much fitter this season and I would start him so we have his on-field leadership in the inevitable 10-20 min period(s) where we are under the cosh. Kompany and Stones for me (with Ota on the bench).
Good. Let him get call ups closer to the EuroCup when it matters. Don't need him getting injured as he tries too hard to prove he belongs in some dumb friendly.Didn`t make the France squad this time either. Sakho and Zouma is there instead

And since we all know what's coming Sunday ( A hellish press) the last guy I want as a part of that is Kompany.
I agree with this, he look excellent against average teams but he’s been found wanting on several occasions.Laporte has shown little ability to deal with any skilled attacker, let alone a high press. Laporte will probably play and it will likely end disastrously and the penny will start to drop. There's a reason he doesnt have a single cap for France.
I think you've conflated 2 or 3 issues here. Whether Laporte can deal with a skilled attacker has little to do with handling a high press. One is a function of his defending, the other his pass ability or comfort on the ball. Unless you are suggesting he is terrible at both.Laporte has shown little ability to deal with any skilled attacker, let alone a high press. He had limitations by Clichy was a good signing. So let's recap City left backs.
Michael Ball - Crap. Really bad. Can't defend (see balloongate). Short, slow.
Javi Garrido - Weak. Can't defend. At all. Seriously, physically, the weakest defender I've ever seen.
Wayne Bridge - Ye gods. Couldn't find the ball at his own feet. Also staggeringly lazy. And incompetant. The stupidist footballer I've ever seen. Easily.
Kolarov - Can't defend. Actually can, under the right circumstances. But slow and turned slower than the moon cycles. Beaten one-one - all ends up - by EVERYONE. And their dog. And the dog's mother.
Clichy - Past it. Poor player. Despite reputation and pace, barely able to defend. The most awful defensive mistakes, usually caused by him being switched off like Battersea Power Station.
Danilo - Nice passer, strong. Good looking lad. Not a defender. At all. Zero defensive skills. None. As bad as any one of these defensively.
Mendy - Beaten with ease. No positioning. I.e. Can't defend, no siree. Really quite shocking.
Delph - Ahh. A defensive player! Looked alright, but actually in midfield despite being listed as LB. When actually out on the left, often really very bad. Two howlers in one goal. Not quite a record but definitely of note, even in this illustrious company.
Zinchenko - I like. Cannot, willnot ever make a LB at this level. Relative to his rivals for the LB slot, this lad is not a good defender. Everyone knows it. It is a famous internet meme.
Laporte - Cannot defend at LB. Cannot PLAY at LB. NO. NEVER AGAIN. BAD PEP.
So, who exactly was the last (defensively) reliable left-back we had?
Lescott never actually started there to the best of my knowledge.
Ben Thatcher? No effing comment.
Sun Jihai? I don't even know if he played LB. I may have blacked it out.
Pearce? Was about 60 when he joined. About as fast as the forming of an Ox Bow lake.
Last good City left-backs are therefore;
Danny Tiatto. Sort of.
and
Terry Phelan. Good lad.
