Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

I suspect this will all be sorted, one way or another, in the next couple of weeks.

He's playing well and the hypocrites are now heralding him in the national spotlight, cue an opportunity to stir the pot in the media via his agent briefings and hacks with nothing better to do than use it as a tool to exert pressure on City's performances.

I'd wager we will see a few more articles this weekend suggesting City are ready to sell, Sterling is ready to walk, Sterling is ready to sign again for £500k a week...ad nauseam.

City can't allow that to impact the team or squad, so an offer now closer to what he's after, which is when the club will know exactly where we all stand.

For the record, I do think Sterling owes City a degree of loyalty. We could have left him in limbo at Liverpool as the price was raised. He's also been improved out of sight by Pep.

Do think we will have good news.

He may well do but if he gets to the last year of his contract then clubs will be queueing up and offering him all sorts of incentives, they'll likely then try steal a march by signing him before he becomes a free agent.

I would be astounded if Sterling went on a Bosman.
so would I, but I am simply trying to put a point of view across that if he has made his mind up already to go (which I dont believe), then it is because he has been tapped up, and if that is the case, he could sit on his City contract to their mutual benefits. No doubt we will all be laughing over this thread in a few months time

I'd love to be able to agree, but I'll admit I'm starting to get quite uneasy now. Just for the hell of it, what would be the terminal date that people would expect Raheem to be re-signing, if he's going to? I'd think that if it hasn't happened by Christmas, or soon after, then it's not going to.

If Sterling goes then he goes. He is far from being irreplaceable.
Pep has honed the rough diamond to what he is now and without a world class coach like Pep
Sterling will steadily regress. Sterling needs Pep and City more than Pep and City need Sterling.
I honestly wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if he left at any time.

He couldn't be at a better place at this point in his career, he is winning honours under one of the best coaches in the world while being paid very very well.

Of course he is free to whatever he wants in the future and if he decides to see out his contract and leave on a free then i will be disappointed but good luck to the guy.

For what it's worth i think he will sign a new deal.

Bang on the money

similarly to Milner i.e. a professional who honoured his side of his contract
Whilst I don't agree with what Milner did, Sterling might end up with no choice but to copy him.

If he wants to play in Spain at some stage in his career, he has two options. Either go after his City contract has expired, or go during his contract for a fee. Given the fee will be very high, will Real Madrid be able or willing to pay it? If not, then his only option would be to run down his contract.

Milner made excuses and fed the club false demands while running his contract down, hence why people think hes a cvnt.If Raheem does intend to leave,i dont expect similar behaviour, but time will tell.

Over all the years I have supported City, the only players I was gutted to see go were Dennis Tueart, Tommy Caton (RIP), Paul Stewart and SWP.......sad to see Kinkladze go to some extent. Apart from Dennis Tueart, they all moved onto clubs that were perceived to be bigger clubs at the time. I guess there are only three clubs Sterling could go to for a fee, actually two, because PSG are likely to struggle with funding if they wanted him. In all honesty, I would be more gutted if Sane went and I have little doubt that the Red Tops will soon be running stories about Sane with links to Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

I'm not sure Sane will be a target for Bayern,as his popularity/relationship with the media/fans doesn't seem great.Barca and Real, might be different.

Millner's situation was totally different. He is older and isn't a game changing player like Sterling. While being a good professional he just isn't in the same category as a player but a good level below. If Sterling leaves I presume it will be to a top European club, probably one of the Spanish two. Millner went to Liverpool which at the time he moved were a good level below us. He moved for a big pay day pure and simple. Even then he wouldn't have got any stick if he wouldn't have started bad mouthing us in the press.
