Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Apparently we're the least fouled team in the league.
to be fair, it only counts freekicks as fouls, so if the ref plays advantage then it doesn't count. Because we keep the ball so well, a lot of fouls are just ignored as we still have the ball. That being said, we also get incredibly short change out of referees, frequently it seems they think "oh they've had it for ages, who cares if it was a bit of a foul, let's let the shit team have a go".

This is what Clattenburg has said today:

“As for City’s penalty, this was the correct call. Ryan Bennett tackles with his wrong foot and catches Raheem Sterling on the knee. Sterling is running at pace and the contact is consistent with his fall. Forget his reputation for diving, this is a penalty.”

REPUTATION FOR DIVING.

According to Clattenberk, he also has a repution for having a third hand in the middle of his back.

Raheem does have a reputation for diving but objective observers - and this may include Clattenberg - agree that it is undeserved. Scousers will always scream if ANY penalty is given to Sterling, firstly because he's a "mercenary traitor" and secondly because it must, therefore, be "contact" capable of putting Tyson Fury out for a full ten count to be a foul on him.

Forget Clattenburg's reputation as a referee, here's his opinion anyway!

Fucking chancer.

Yep, but the point is this is coming from a referee. They should not have any pre-dispositions and in this case they are incorrect as well.

Interestingly, further down that page, there is the 'Premier League Situational Statistics', which shows the fouls league table, with not a single entry for a dive, for anybody!
Well, if Sky and BBC’s coverage of Salah’s exploits have taught us anything, dives are *very* difficult to identify...

Indeed they are, in real time at least, so I do have sympathy for the refs. Some. And last night's red card was a correct decision. Kompany's yellow vs dippers was wrong IMO, should also have been red. But, if VAR is in place for 'clear and obvious mistakes', then I think he would have been put on report ala Rugby League and banned thereafter, if VAR even has any say in these matters, who knows? What I do think is that we still don't have consistency with the referee's decision making. Penalty decisions should go to VAR, but violent/out of control/studs up challenges should be a split second decision made by the referee and if it's wrong, it goes to a future panel decision process. I'm wearing the tin hat for that VK comment!

There's a thread on the wolves forum about raheem. The vast majority seem to hate him for no apparent reason. The country is just full of sheep who are naive enough to let the shit they read shape their opinion on a person.
