Garcia and Sandler nowhere near ready for first time. That would be suicide having them 2 as third and fourth.

I think we would be fine having Garcia as 4th choice next year; he looks a prodigious talent in the exact mould of what Pep wants in a CB. We would need to buy a third choice CB, though, and wait to see how Sandler develops to determine if he could be 4th choice in following seasons (even if Philippe is older than Eric).

I agree with this but send Sandler out on loan.

Garcia just like Foden I would keep here learn with Stones & Laporte.
Training with these guys all year & Pep at his side he will thrive.

You can see that in his game now both feet not frightened to play.
It will be a very sad day but Vinny is coming to the end of a fucking fantastic career. He has worn that City shirt with pride & carried everyone of us with him.
When you talk about legends of the game this guy deserves every plaudits going.
He will have part of the ground named after him & 100% deserves it.
As far as Nico he wants out IMO & he deserves to be able to move on.
He wants to play week in week out but that ain happening, he wants to play in every big game but not in the same class as Stones or Laporte.
Nico gives us a good part of the transfer fee to go & get De Ligt whereas Vinny must become the new defence coach or work with Zaba with our youth teams.
Whatever is the outcome both will finish with there heads high..

Thet need games but I'm quite comfortable with either of them paired with John or Eric. Neither is particularly dissimilar to Joe Gomez at Liverpool. Young and doing just fine paired with an experienced and talentet CB.

For what we do, they are both quite capable and I reckon will slide in comfortably eventually if required. Perhaps not tommorow, but in a year or 2 ( they'll definitely nbe good enough to play 3rd and 4th fiddle).

That said, it's wierd reading you say the above. I remember the days you could not wait to help him pack his bags and personally drive him.to the Airport...

I still think he was absolutely fucking terrible then & tbh is pretty dodgy right now, but he did well last season & imo the kids we have now at cb, are unlikely to be reliable at all in the next year or so especially if they come under pressure.

Otamendi dropped a terrible bollock yesterday but even then, both our young cbs did similar things in an 'easy' game the other night & we are, understandably, making allowances for it, but there is a very decent chance they will repeat that, numerous times, if put under genuine pressure in important games. They need time.

Otamendi is likely to improve on his current, pretty grim level, rather than get worse, the more he plays.

And just for the record, I wanted to buy Van Dijk with the money.

He's obviously 4th choice isn't he? Stones & Laporte have played way more than him, and Kompany got picked for the big games, and had played more until he got injured. I think Otamendi spent more time left out of matchday squads than Vinny as well.

You might, but Pep's shown us he doesn't based on who has been picked for the big games.

Most important game of the season against Liverpool, league title on the line, Laporte goes to LB and who comes into CB? The 3rd choice CB, Kompany.
 
For me Otamendi is the only CB we have that can play comfortably left or right side of the Centre Back positions, making him the natural choice to replace Laporte when he doesn’t play. Only Laporte is a natural left footer of the CB’s we have. This makes Otamendi fairly invaluable to the team until we get a back up left footed Centre back or someone who can play comfortably on that side of CB.

Never feel as comfortable when Stones or Kompany play there.
