Nicolás Otamendi - 2018/19 performances

Confident we can look after him well and he will continue to perform for us after this season especially and its odds on now VK will finish with us comes seasons end.

Real or Barca must be a tad short on key defenders if they want to pry him away from us in the summer as he would no doubt get less game time with them than us.

how has he. After John and Eric, I believe there is no certain 3rd preference - what's the problem
I'm inclined to agree with this personally.

I'm not 100% certain Laporte is being played so frequently because he's our best CB by such a distance that he has to play. I think the fact he's left footed plays the biggest part.

I don't know if I posted it on here or simply brought it up in conversation as it was a while ago, but I think all four of our CBs are as good as each other. Each with their own strengths and weaknesses. And I am going to guess Pep knows that.

I don't believe Otamendi is behind Kompany (or vice versa). I just think Otamendi suffers a bit from being behind Laporte. If Laporte were to ever suffer an injury (I hope not), Otamendi would be the one closest to playing every week I think.

I believe it's worth noting there was a period a couple of months ago where Otamendi looked like he was 3rd choice and not Kompany. And there was a period before that where he didn't even look like he was going to play this season. And I reckon they'll be a point in a few weeks time where Otamendi looks like he's ahead of Kompany again.

Amazing ball he dinked to Bernardo through a crowd of players, like a sand wedge, landed soft as a feather, always full of surprises
Crowd didn't seem to know how to respond, sort of went oooh, has he over hit it has he ballsed it up ,no hes hit a fantastic ball and you may applaud

Needs to keep his place in the first 11 now. With him or Kompany on the field, I don t think Newcastle would have scored their first.

I think people still remember him for his performances in his first season when he was a bit rash and got caught out a few times.

Under Guardiola he's been brilliantly consistent.

I do wonder whether we have shot ourselves in the foot this season with giving Otamendi a bit-part job in the side. Last season we were defensively solid and he was one of the main reasons for that. We have demoted him this season and Laporte apart, we haven't really benefited from it. Collectively, we certainly look more shaky at the back.

Personally I feel that it's time to move the general on come the end of the season. Being able to cash in now will give us £30-£40 to put towards De Ligt. Squeeze another year out of Vinny and start giving Garcia more game time too.

He played really well yesterday on the whole but his one fuck up lead to their goal.

3rd most tackles: 3 (Behind Walker and Laporte on 4)
Most interceptions: 4
Most successful clearances: 8

Statistically, not bad.

Absolutely colossal tonight. Pep has managed him brilliantly and it looks like he could be peaking at just the right time.

Was on his ass a bit too much for my liking in the beginning but ultimately had a great game.

I was surprised how often he was 2nd best in the air last night; it's not like him.

Played well enough save for two consecutive passes back to Ederson that he put to his right foot. Each time it led to us losing possession and each time it was entirely avoidable.

Ajax will want at least £60m for De Ligt, and combined with the fact that Barca and co will likely be interested, I don't think we should even bother trying to get him. Rightly or wrongly, Txiki will refuse to go high enough to beat the other clubs.
