I'm surprised at the number of people who seem to want them to lose this tie. If they're eliminated, they'll have a chance to rest players and focus soley on the league. You might argue that a defeat would demoralize them and affect their league form but there's no indication that this might happen.

I think it's better if Liverpool win and draw Atletico. The matches would be absolutely brutal. Let's see how they cope with a match every 3 days, with that thin squad.
I think it's a bit of a myth that getting knocked out of cups automatically leads to more points in the league.

Two contrasting schools of thought and there is merit in both. In Mourinho's first season I wanted them to go as deep as possible in the cups (following your reasoning) and they ended up winning two pots so I am now firmly in the "I hope they (Pool) get beaten in every match they play". I do think if they are only in the race for the title then pressure will build which could tell. I'm not Nostradamus so I don't know.
Just look at Utd and how are still in the hat for the next round. IMO that breeds a lot of confidence.

Schalke? Are they really expecting Schalke to eliminate City?

As far as Ajax go, they aren't pushovers. They comprehensively outplayed Madrid in their backyard. I'm not sure I'd be giddy over the possibility of drawing them.
Look at it from Liverpool fans' point of view though, Ajax are just not in the same elite category as their club whether it's European success, contributing to successful national teams or recent domestic titles

Definitely behind Bayern for this one.
And I don't actually think that going out of the CL will have a positive effect on the dippers' league form. They're already playing worse than us despite only being in two competitions to our four (well, three now). I think it will make them even tenser than they already visibly are, with all eggs in one basket, and the danger of a complete washout of a season after all the crowing in the media up to their defeat against us. Winning creates the habit of winning. We've got a big enough squad to handle it. They, on the other hand, are in this position: if Salah and Mané don't score, then basically, Liverpool don't score. There are other factors, but there's a kernel of truth in that.

Same for me. I hope they get battered by Bayern.

Truly awful shirt
