Liverpool thread 2018/19

Our players are not immune to pressure. In both the close title runs, we dropped points to the likes of Sunderland, Swansea in the run-in to put our rivals ahead. We have experience winning it but it isn't much of an advantage. Ferguson's United had won several titles yet bottled an 8 point lead. Every season is different. It maybe that Liverpool are more hungry and motivated than us this season to win a title they haven't won for decades. Right now they have a slender edge due to their invincibility, but if we win on Jan 3rd, we are right on top.

Our issue has been commitment in a season after we have won the title. This season that isn't an issue because Pep has his players committed to the cause and desperate to create a period of dominance. He will not let them take their foot off. In our one defeat at Chelsea we should have been leading at half time but missed Aguero. Silva was carrying a knock and we didn't have De Bruyne.

Each season you mentioned we won the league so we can handle the pressure. We had to beat the rags at home to have any chance and we did. Even against QPR with 1 minute left and needing to win we got the two goals required. Liverpool had the league in their hands. Bottled a 3 nil lead at Palace and lost to Chelsea to end up being 2pts down on us. We had games in hand we needed to win and we did just that.

I giving up because if that managerial genius Roy Keane says they will win it then it is all over.

Tbf he did say all 3 forwards need to stay fit and sharp. Kind of safe guarding himself there.

Nerves. It’s a “Once bitten twice shy” feel. We all remember a few years ago, we all remember the jokes which have been shoved down our throats every single day since.

There’s confidence in the squad like I’ve not seen before but given what Chelsea did to us a few years ago most know it can change in just one result.

I wouldn’t say demanding trophies, we all want the big prize but if Klopp didn’t win anything this season you won’t be seeing the fans turn on him. It would be on to next season.

Nor should they.

There isn't a long queue of top class managers waiting in the wings, who clubs can pick & choose from, several of them are already here, & so is Mourinho.

Just logging this post and the reference to the fans / Klopp .

While they obviously now have a very strong side and more strength in depth so far they have been unbelievably lucky in terms of injuries ( Gomez excepted) and every deflection and decision going their way. Yesterday they almost blew the rags away for the first thirty minutes but once they equalised you could see the nerves and doubts start to creep in. If the rags had someone who could actually pass and shoot straight they may have got something out of the game, as dire as they were. They say the luck evens out let's see how they cope if it does.

Imo, had they defended properly & lumped it effectively, they would have got something.

Their pathetic attempts to pass the ball resulted in them losing it almost every time & their defence played like a bunch of amateurs.

Liverpool mostly failed to cash in on one of the worst rag performances in 30 years & had no invention whatsoever.

i have only watched a handful of their games this season but they looked really good today. A different style to us for sure but a well-equipped side. Think we will edge it but expecting it to be tighter than I originally thought.

FFS they were playing a mid table team. I could have got in the raggies side and I am 60, overweight and short sighted. Will people stop making out that yesterdays result was on par with the Dips beating Chelsea or a proper top four side. I am not dismissing them but yesterday was no test of how good they are.

And should any female posters be reading I am actually just under 50 and look like Bobby Manc.

So far there have been injuries on Henderson x 2, Mané, Wijnaldum, Gomez x 2, Matip x 2, Lovren x 2, Alexander Arnold, Milner and a couple of injuries to Origi and Solanke. If that is unbelievable luck, I don't want to be around when Liverpool are unbelievably unlucky.

Totally agree, considering the way City eased past United, Liverpool seemed poor to me with their physical dominance, shots on goal and the sheer incompetence of nearly every United player in that game.

No you don't, as they will suddenly be 6th if they have the equivalent injuries we have had over the past couple of seasons.
