Madeleine McCann

Neither of us know the conversations that happened following the child saying this.

Kids cry and say things like that all the time.

All I’m saying is it’s difficult to understand things from the McCanns point of view in the build up.
We don't but it just seems incredibly stupid and needlessly risky to leave your kids alone in a foreign country.
I don't have kids but I just couldn't envision myself doing this, especially when there was a night crèche on the complex

I’m saying it’s not specific and I’m not saying sleeping in the room next door is the same at all.

My point is stating “leaving them alone” doesn’t necessarily help as a statement by itself. Every kid is alone at times we need to evaluate to what extent.

Saying “they fucked off” doesn’t help either.

They could see half the apartment from their dining table, you could throw a stone to it.

She’s likely dead because a gang coordinated an abduction by likely studying their movements for almost a week.

It’s a tragic incident and I feel the people that constantly berate grieving parents need to back off.
It’s a poor argument because how ever you try to make light of them leaving their kids doesn’t hide the fact it was an insufficient safeguard as she went missing.

I genuinely used to be firmly in the neglect camp, thought it was terrible they were eating away but then looking into it, I realised how close they were. and that they checked regularly.

The way the resort was too, it was very family oriented and seemed very enclosed.

You could see the apartment from the dinner table and without us fully understanding the atmosphere in the resort at the time, I don’t think we should be quick to judge.

Kids go missing all the time all over the world and the majority of the time the parents haven’t done anything a normal parent wouldn’t do.

I think saying the fact she went missing is why they should be punished is a poor argument.

However close the restaurant was is irrelevant , how on earth could you sit there enjoying a meal & a drink while chit chatting with your friends while your 3 year old may wake up in a dark apartment crying for her mum or dad,the thought of it makes me sick , did these excuse for parents never even think of that, did it never occur to them ? They neglected their duties as parents & their daughter has paid the price.

They weren’t “close”. They could barely see the apartment from the restaurant as there were trees in the way and the patio door that was unlocked was on the side they couldn’t see anyway.

They were close but it depends what your definition of close is. There was a wall and a swimming pool in between their table and the apartment - you could throw a stone from their table and hit the apartment door.

Hindsight is a wonderful/terrible thing, I reckon they probably felt incredibly safe in that resort.
