Manchester United (A) - Pre Match Thread

I say I’m confident now but come matchday I’ll be shitting my knickers lol. Still think we’ll win though. No matter what ‘response’ they give they’re still shite. It’s just down to us not to bottle it

You expect Utd players to be 'up' for a derby, under any circumstances, but especially if they see the chance to stop us winning the title. And their fans would love that, whatever they say.

It's far better to be playing in those circustances, against a bunch of players who have just shipped 7 goals in two games. It makes our job easier, to undermine their confidence.

Yep. Right at the start they'll be as up for it as you'd expect in a derby. But it'll be fragile, and if they concede an early goal, that's when those beatings will be remembered. Fear.

The way we can keep the ball I hope they run around closing us down we will pass through them worst scenario would be them sitting back.

This will not be easy at all. I imagine they will set up exactly how spurs did with a diamond in midfield and Rashford and martial up top. The horrible shit Herrera being back for them is a blow for us as a midfield of static (more appropriate name imo) Pogba, Fred and mctominay or however it’s spelt is very weak. I suspect their midfield will be Matic at the base like wanyama was, Herrera and pogba and lingard at the top supplying long balls into the space behind our defence to martial and Rashford. I don’t think Solskjaer posses the tactical nous to do anything different but to try and mimic spurs as it was clear they did cause us problems with their pace.

Reading the interviews from Pogba and static they have mentioned a meeting after the mauling and are ready to react, that could go one of two ways get an early goal and it will deflate them.

I think it is pretty obvious how we will line up with maybe 2 decisions to be made, I see Mendy missed training yesterday so one of those decisions may be made a lot easier for pep the other is who to play next to Laporte at cb. Me personally I would go with Kompany as he is our leader and he is probably marginally quicker then stones but certainly quicker than otamendi. Otmendi to come in against Burnley as he relishes those physical challenges.

Ederson

Walker
Kompany
Laporte
Mendy (zinchenko if not fit...again)

Fern
Gundogan
D Silva

Sterling
Bernardo
Aguero

Think it will be 3 -1 to us but I’m so nervous and losing sleep already I may not even watch the game to not put myself through the anguish! Cmon city one last push

Spot on analysis, I think this will be the team.

The only other option is Gundogan to drop to the bench, Bernado inside and Sané wide. I think it’s pretty unlikely from the start though.

I think Dave is going to be absolutely key in this game. We need him to step up and control the tempo.

A positive is Utd can't afford to park the bus. A draw is no good for them. If it's level with 20 mins to go they will need a win for the top 4

He simply has to play Sane against their back 4. One of the most lethargic in the league and prone to diving in everywhere.

I’d love him to play Sané. He’d get in the team that I’d pick.

But Pep doesn’t seem to fancy him at the moment, for whatever reason.

I expect (hope?) Solskjaer is going to totally unprepared for managing a Manchester Derby.

Their game will be fuelled by emotion because of the previous result but that doesn't necessarily give them an advantage. Solskjaer is clueless and his master plan will be telling the players a load of bollocks about fighting for the traditions of United. Tactical ineptness combined with too much emotion will only result in chaos which means players making silly fouls, an uncoordinated press and being caught out of position. On the other hand, no matter the scoreline, we stick to the way Pep wants us to play because we know eventually we'll make the breakthrough. In my opinion, it will be headless chickens versus an ice cold winning machine and we will prevail comfortably.

I see Solskjaer is trying to get in the ref's ear already...

LOL.
Calling City more or less a bunch of cloggers only shows how desperate rags are right now.

Helpless at Goodison, no game plan, no creativity, no team.
If you have no idea what to do, start talking rubbish about your opponent...
Oh dear.

City has another final and spurs were in a much better shape than those lot. Can't wait.

The Daily Fail has dedicated it's online sports pages to United.

If we beat them tomorrow, they will get more pages and headlines than we will.

TBH it was the worst result for us before the derby. All their players will be up.for it now. They will die for that red shirt for 90 minutes. We will have to be at the top of our game to beat those mad and desperate f***ers on Wednesday.

Cant agree with that at all. No matter what the likes of a desperate spitter might say. I would far prefer playing a demoralised, disjointed and disgruntled team rather than one that had just walloped Everton with a good performance. Our mentality will be key. We are by far the better team blessed with exceptional players. As long as we play the team in front of us and not the occasion then I expect a reasonably comfortable win.

Also, Pep vs OGS.
