Leicester (H) Post Match Thread.

Someone posted a link to the Football is Fixed website yesterday, and I spent a few minutes looking at it. There were strong implications that Leicester were to be heavily favoured in this game, with a friendly referee (who officiated in a Leicester win in the reverse fixture) as well as allusions to Leicester’s enhanced energy levels in their title winning year, betting patterns for the game, and the desire for Liverpool to break their Premier League duck. One thing that caught my eye while I was browsing the site was a reference to “City’s resilience to overcome external factors”.

As expected, we got nothing from the officials in the game, but Vinnie’s brilliant goal epitomised our ability to overcome external influences. There was absolutely nothing they could do to overturn that goal.
I’m sure the site has taken that down now. The same as when they deleted a tweet from earlier in the season where they stated “united have been awarded the FA Cup and Liverpool the league” obviously the tweet was deleted within an hour of the rags getting knocked out of the cup.
Sorry for me it loses all credibility when it states something as gospel (because they’re in the know) but scuttles about frantically to delete tweets when they’ve clearly been telling porkies. It’s the classic a few truths mingled in with a load of bollocks a la David Icke.

Was as nervous as hell about the game. Anyone like me? Hardly slept a wink last night, just snoozed for a couple of hours, had a tension headache because of the match.
Spoke to a fellow blue this morning and agreed Leicester kept the ball well in their own half and relied on trying to catch us on the break.
Overall though, if it was earlier in the season and no nerves, we would have been more free flowing with our football.

I seem to have missed the Liverpool fans' planned reception for the City team coach yesterday after the clarion call on their forum. Perhaps someone who witnessed it can let me know how it went on....
They're still waiting outside the Albert pub, no one told them the route had been changed.

Great story on bbc news earlier.

A little boy called Rizky who is a big City fan was watching the highlights of a game in an internet cafe when the earthquake in Indonesia struck in September. He was pulled out from the rubble badly hurt. When his story was covered initially he said his favorite player was Mahrez. Mahrez recorded a video message wishing him all the best. You can imagine how a young fan spirits are lifted by that. The bbc reported it and then a follow up happened. Someone watching the story wanted to give the boy the chance to see City in person. He paid for the flight, and the club got involved inviting Rizky to not just watch in the stadium but be a mascot walking out with the players. And after the game Mahrez met him in person and gifted a signed ball from the team.

Shows the power of football transcends winning and losing a game.

I was fearing not sleeping if we lost of drew the game. Instead we won and I still couldnt sleep through excitement, I dont know how the players/manager do it.

Some reflections on last night:

I was very disappointed with Leicester.

All the pre-match hype was about how dangerous the Foxes are on the counter and the speed they possess to really worry our 'dodgy' defence, but they hardly had a shot all game and considering Brenda said they were coming to attack, they certainly put a lot of bodies behind the ball.

When Vinnie started moving forward with the ball, I didn’t even think about him shooting, so for a split second, I couldn’t believe he’d actually scored. It was a fabulous strike, and with its context, one of the greatest goals that the Etihad has yet seen.

You could see that the occasion got to him during the lap of appreciation. He was close to tears for much of it.

The funny thing is that coach welcoming last year backfired for Liverpool. I’ve no doubt in my mind it’s been a significant motivator to pip them to the title this year.

Think Rodgers is readying them for next season with what style he wants - ala Pep

They played out from the back last night quite well at times, upfront however they weren't great

Something else I forgot to mention in my previous post:

Often, people react and start to stand and celebrate before the ball hits the net, but the ball was travelling so fast that it was a goal before anyone realised. Watch the spectators in the North Stand.

Agree. They were also very well organised and disciplined, physically strong and, though they did not offer much up front, they might have punished us on the break a couple of times. If they can hold on to their their prize playing assets and make two or three good signings over the summer - including Tielemans - they could challenge for a 5th or even, at a (big) push, 4th spot given the current shambles at OT and the question marks hanging over Chelsea and the Arse, and possibly over Spuds, too, if key players are sold. (And I don’t like Rodgers at all, by the way!)

I was impressed with Leicester. They've got a lot of good players and look like they'll be a really good team next year.
