Is Gabby injured?

Tite praises Jesus
Brazil have lost just twice in 42 games under coach Tite, who praised Manchester City striker Jesus after the match.

"Gabriel impresses all the professionals that work with him because he never gives up," said Tite.

"People tell him 'you just have to put up with the pain and run,' and that's what I asked him to do.
He did hurt himself before the 2nd goal, and he took a battering much of the 1st half too.

But I think pain here is referring to the emotional side of things. He's come in for a lot of stick in Brazil and he hadn't scored a tournament goal yet so the pressure and anguish was piling, much like Sterling had to deal with for England.

Conflicted when he assisted the dipper for the second goal. Especially after he brushed aside Otamendi. Still happy for him in the end. He needed this to quiet the Brazilian critics after the bad WC campaign.

He had an excellent game and also had a ridiculous move on the edge of the box (where he dribbled and beat about 5 players) to set up Coutinho, who missed a sitter from 12 yds out.

If he gets a run of games for City (btw he played RIGHT WING for Brazil last night!) he could show people a lot more of his abilities. And, he did get battered last night, but got up and kept going. I’d like to see more of that from him, to show the doubters he isn’t the lightweight they might think he is.

There was some serious “cut and thrust” in the game last night, and it got a bit juicy at times (especially one scything tackle on Jesus that wasn’t even called a foul because the ref played the advantage!!!), but he showed strength, courage and some brilliant forward play.

We could do worse than playing him on the right, with Sergio in the middle and Sterling on the left, with Sané & Mahrez on the bench!!

We could do no worse..... he’s a number 9 all day long and Aguero will have a fight on his hand this season!

Absolutely! Sergio just turned 31 and has been working harder than ever at being a better team player, but Jesus has youth and the ability to go all day on his side, just a smidge less guile and execution on his finishing.

I’m glad Jesus is taking the #9 shirt this season, too. All I was saying was that he didn’t look out of place on the right wing for Brazil, as he used his pace, and willingness to get into the box, to great effect. Of note, it was late in the game, and he had switched over to the left channel when he made Firmino’s goal, which was the move of the night.

So, it is clear he can play across the forward line, even if he believes himself to be a #9, which only creates even more havoc for defenders, who have to worry about an attacking group of players that should strike fear in their deepest safe place!!

Seriously can’t wait to see him this season and get your point.... it’s those options why I feel we’ll retain the league though, having the ability for the front 3 to interchange is almost Liverpool-esque (:

I just watched the full game...he might have been RW on the teamsheet but he wasn't playing there in reality, he was just another striker. Firmino spent just as much time out on the right and they both drifted around a lot but Jesus was nothing like a proper right wing.

I think we'll finally see them together a bit, which will give Jesus his platform to show if he can get ahead of Aguero, not to mention more regular game time to get into a rhythm and stay in form.

We know Guardiola has wanted to play them together for 2 years but said he needed Mendy to do so. The arrival of another proper fullback in Angelino means we're no longer relying on Mendy's fitness (plus hopefully he is fit now) to do so.

I remember that near the start of the 2017/18 season Jesus and Aguero were playing together and it was certainly working but then Mendy got his injury. If Angelio can come up and play up to the standards that we need from him then I'll be looking forward to potentially seeing Jesus and Aguero play alongside each other again. I get the feeling that Jesus is really going to step up this season. He's had a great Copa America and if he can carry on his form into the new season then I reckon we'll be in for a treat.

Interesting to see him back out on the left for Brazil an starting to do the business. This is really exciting for him in our team IMO, as it means the whole front 3 could rotate all game and confuse the fuck out of opposition players.
He played on the right wing first half and left wing second half in the semifinal the other night.

He was very good. Probably only Casemeiro was better on the pitch.

Still a striker though for me.

A guy on Twitter said Gabby picked up a knee injury but played on for 10 minutes before being subbed. No news as yet on the extent of the injury.

He jarred his knee slightly when chasing a long through-ball, which looked innocuous at the time, but then resulted in him hobbling off in clear pain about 10 minutes later. I hate those kind of slight twists and jarrings, because they often end up being the worst injuries (ie ligaments). Nothing on his Twitter feed since unfortunately. Guess we'll know tonight. Fingers crossed he's ok
