It's Quiet 32 - enter at own risk

People have said that about the left back and holding midfield positions for the last two years, both positions were filled very capably by players who people said could never do so. If Delph, Zinchenko and Gundogan can play in unfamiliar positions and we still as a team manage to get 100 and 98 points respectively, then I’m sure one of our most experienced and intelligent players in Fernandinho can cover centre back pretty comfortably. It wouldn’t surprise me if he became first choice alongside Laporte over the course of the season, he’s that good.

I think you’re underestimating how much of a specialised position CB is. in possession I’m sure he will fit in there fine, but out of possession? as good as dinho is, he’s a 34 year old midfielder, expecting him to perform at a world class level consistently and not just a capable fill in for a game or two is a lot to ask.

The difference here though is we were forced into the other two examples because of season ending injuries to Mendy and missing out on our primary target at the last moment last season in Jorginho. this time we’re choosing to handicap ourselves. I’m sure we will be fine for the most part of the season but all it takes is one injury and a suspension at the wrong time and were screwed. It’s a huge risk to take when we don’t have to and there’s no real benefit to taking the risk other than saving some money that we can afford to spend.

Why did he leave?
A lack of opportunities and minutes, exactly the same situation as Diaz.

If we buy another centre back now, one or both of Garcia and Harwood-Bellis will run their contracts down just the same as Diaz and Sancho.
Why do people keep repeating that shite, Sancho was still 16 when he decided he was leaving. It had nothing to do with lack of opportunities or minutes.

What? Of course it did. He left because he didn't think there would be opportunities in the future. Our track record of integrating youth post takeover has been pretty dire.

Please explain how Fernandinho is different from Mascherano.

Why would a 16 year old Brit go to Dortmund when he could play under Pep if it wasn't about playing time or opportunities?

Think were done both in and out. Sadly, I suspect we will pay heavily for going into a season with just 3 cbs. Every other big side has 4 minimum. We’re going into the new season weaker than we ended the last in a position that was widely regarded as our weakest area.
Garcia will now be made 4th choice hes one hell of a player.
