Oleksandr Zinchenko - 2019/20 Performances

Would like to see a duo of Zinny/Gundogan/Rodri used more often. I think even if we don't use him as a sole pivot, he would be great in a duo, and honestly, the rotation works perfectly in our midfield.

David/Kevin/Foden can play as 8s or as the 10 in either midfield set up.

Zinchenko/Gundogan/Rodri can play in double pivot or single pivot.

6 midfielders for 3 spots. Bernardo plays in midfield more when David retires as well.

Ditto for any player, it's all a bit suspicious.
I suspect some people find it impossible to change their mind once it's made up.
At one point, before he got converted to left back, I tought Zinchenko wasn't good enough for us. I guess we all did. He was never getting into that midfield.
His performances forced me to change my mind. Simple.
He got a 5 year deal so at least some people agreed...

I never thought he was good enough at LB. Not even last year. He was doing OK out of position, but was always the weakest part and it was often highlighted when we faced the stronger opposition. This season it just got worse. It's similar situation as with Delph, he was doing pretty OKish one season there, but after that he was liability.

Good for you.
I guess the likes of Pep made a huge mistake sanctioning a 5 year deal.
He Probably deserves a spell on the bench right now but not good enough?
Apart from Mendy, name me three left backs in the EPL that would get in this City team ahead of him?
That Liverpool fellow? Yep.
Chillwell? Not a chance.
Who else?

I'd put any left back in front of him. As they are left backs and he isn't.

Giving him a contract was a no brainer. We got him for nothing, he was covering the single devastated position we had and if we ever decide to sell, we can get nice profit.

Sorry, I like Zin and what he has done was remarkable considering that he played completely new position. But he's just not a left back, let alone a good one. And will never be. If there was place in our midfield, I'd be more than happy to try him there as he deserved it with how he carried himself last few years. But there isn't and I'd sell.

Ok then...
If Zinchenko was the worst leftback in the league, would we have won 98 points? Does that even remotely make sense to you?
If Zinchenko was the worst leftback in the league wouldn't we have made more of an effort to sign a proven top class left back from a top club?
In any case... Very capable people who's ideas win us titles clearly disagree with you.

We have one of the best assembled teams ever and could afford to carry on a player that is not specialist on it's position in the league where we are not tested too often. We spent 130m on 3 fullbacks with one of them being bought to eventually cover the left if needed, though it didn't work. We couldn't spend a fortune on fullbacks forever and buy another 40-50 million LB while waiting for Mendy. There are another positions to invest in.

I know we have very smart people running the club, and bold ones too when they decided to risk it with Zinchenko, but it's silly to think that we wouldn't have liked to add another real LB if we could afford it. It was a risk that kinda paid off and one that no other manager would ever do. Don't forget we wanted to sell him last summer but he refused to go.

It doesn't mean it has to be done in the future too. We have Mendy back, Angelino is there too and if he does any decent job, Zinchenko will have tough time to get any decent minutes. It's probably the best time for both sides to sell him. His stocks are probably highest now than they will ever be in his City future. Both him and us could get a good deal now.
