Var debate 2019/20

Now, now I never went that far. I agree though it has been so poorly implemented and proving so inconsistent its adversely affecting matches even though I do not believe that is an orchestrated intent.
So you’re undecided between:
They are all so fucking shit they don’t know the laws and don’t know how to implement them correctly or
They all know the laws of the game but are cheating bent bastards?

Great!

Not interested in the conspiracy theory stuff, but VAR is fucked. It's offering nothing. It keeps referees mistakes but finds things no one would ever give. It's the worst of both worlds.
Absolutely. It disallows goals because someone’s left testicle is millimetres offside, and doesn’t dare overrule the officials when they are clearly wrong. It offers nothing but misery. It’s sapping the enjoyment out of the sport.

Cheers. You never know in a few years it might be proven there was a conspiracy against City, but I think I would still prefer to be proven wrong than think the game I have watched all these years is corrupt
The only way to resolve this is to do away with the penalty/red card secrecy and for VAR to advise the referee to use the provided monitors to review it showing the replay on big screens (unless youre at ot or anfield cos they don't have them)

What’s ‘it’ though? VAR isn’t a sentient being. It’s just a series of cameras which some bloke reviews. ‘It’ doesn’t make any decisions or dare not to overrule anybody.

Blaming ‘it’ completely let’s the people off the hook which are in charge of the shit show. A human being in charge of the PL referees has decided that this is how it should be used. That guy is clearly an utter moron and has no idea what he’s doing. Every single issue we’re seeing with VAR has been caused by poor decision making from these PL law makers .

If there’s a positive, it’s that it’s actually all fixable with a bit of common sense and decency.

Riley couple of weeks back said there were mistakes made including, he said , the David Silva penalty not given.

So he confirmed that the VAR team should not be simply agreeing with the onfield ref whether ref gives it or not

and then citing it wasnt a clear and obvious error, for agreeing with them. The Watford penalty not given today, he

will state in 2 weeks time will be one, of again, a few mistakes made. So perpetuating that few mistakes are made.

The Burnley goal given by moss was disallowed by VAR for a foul on Evans. How come the VAR team can overule

the ref on this subjective decision, when they have never yet overruled a penalty given or not given by the referee on

a subjective penalty decision. Simple, hes told them not to overule onfield refs subjective penalty decisions thats all.

Refs can simply continue to give a penalty for any contact on a liverpool forward in the box and VAR blindly support it.

Refs will simply continue not to give us a penalty for wiping us out in box & VAR will blindly support that decision too.

Compare Dele Ali shoulder versus Raheems shoulder v West Ham in the disallowed goal for offside. Deli Ali arm today

Is his shoulder so it cannot be handball but back then Raheems shoulder was his arm so he could be adjudged offside.

It’s the implementers of the laws who are also very flawed. I said a couple of months ago that we had the worst referees of the recognised footballing nations and nothing has happened since to change my opinion.

The overall VAR system isn’t working as applied in the Prem. No it’s not the fault of the technology but where was the big call for VAR, beyond goal line decisions and horrendous challenges. It’s a gravy train for referees who now have their own slots on radio and TV.

The frustrating thing about today's decision was that I can completely see how and why the ref didn't think much of it in real time, assuming it was just a coming together, but once you watch it back you see immediately that Kev is running in a straight line for the ball and he is pushed by a player not looking to play the ball at all. The ref has "seen" it, but he hasn't seen all of it. If they're not going to intervene on that - or at least get him to look at the screen - then what is the point of them??

Personally I think if we had to use it I would want to see it implemented for offsides only as they are much less subjective than penalty kicks.

I agree, it's like the referees aren't making big calls because there's VAR, and then VAR's not intervening enough because they don't want to undermine their fellow official. Like, I'm not sure if more big calls are being missed this season, but it certainly feels like that's the case.
Seems more so in our case.
