Until the global crash, Labour's net borrowing was way below the average in the Tories' previous few years.

Paying for the NHS is no problem if it weren't for people who would rather have a second BMW on the drive.
What second BMW? Len invented it. Maybe you could just get Bob to pay his taxes and then we'd be OK.

There's a few things you need to understand about the last Labour government.

1. They were a pretty mild form of Labour. Blair understood the importance of a vibrant business sector, a thriving economy and the need for fiscal prudence. Not a virtue anywhere to be seen in the vacuous heads of the current Labour leadership.

2. They inherited a UK in great shape, with strong growth, low unemploynent, rapidly rising government income and falling deficit. All the economic indicators were good. And very importantly, the worldwide economic backdrop was also very favourable with strong worldwide growth. A truly great place to start.

3. Nevertheless, Blair and Brown set about a program of continual overspending fueled by continual tax rises. They overspent whether growth was high or low or sbsent. 10 years of spending more than we could afford. Of course public services on the whole improved - the only bit you actually noticed. It would have been shocking had they not. But the finances got progressively worse.

It took longer than normal for Labour to fuck it up, because as the lefties continually remind us - this was not "proper" Labour. Brown was failing to balance the books but at least he was trying. Normally, Labour fuck It up much more quickly. But the same result was inevitable all the same. They took a budget surplus in 1999 and turned it into a budget deficit - even after all their taxes rises. So we were still overspending and running a deficit in 2007 when the crash came. The question must be asked, if Labour could not run a budget surplus when the economy was strong growing, when would they? The answer is of course, never. We should have been building cash reserves and paying down debts in 2000 to 2008 not pushing the country further and further into debt. The approach of tax and spend, borrow and spend, tax and spend was unsustainable and doomed to failure, and of course the 2008 crash brought it to a head. They left office with the economy screwed as usual, and the famous note about where all the money has gone, "spent it".

You are simply dreaming if you imagine that this failed philosophy, proven to fail across hudreds of socialist experiments across the globe of the past century, can ever be the answer. The only way we get sustainable improvement of public services is by having a strong economy, reaping the rewards of strong economic growth. And to do that we need to do everything we can to help businesses. Not tax the shit out of them, interfere with how they are run and meddle with the employment laws. Not take ever more money off individuals so they have less to spend. Not burden the country with ever more debt.

For conservatives, a strong economy is the fundamental pillar upon which everything depends. Without it, anything you do is nothing more than a quick fix, a lick of paint on rotten woodwork. But for Corbyn the economy is an irrelevance. He's obsessed with the new wallpaper and curtains whilst happy to see the building in which they are housed, fall to pieces.

Now, after 10 years of hardship under the Tories to get things back on track, the house is now in decent order and we can start to redecorate. Investment is needed, we all agree.

The travesty is should Labour win, people like you will coo about how much better things are under Labour whilst they busily put the new curtains up, a lick of paint. Whilst paying total disregard for proper maintenance and letting the house underneath fall to pieces all over again.

Great bold innovative move from labour regarding free British broadband.
Tories on the back foot trying to rubbish it.
Wot have they got to offer - tax cuts to people who don't need it and hope that some of the wealth trickles down (NOT).

sorry it’s a stunt and it’s a silly one. Why give free broadband to everyone, every home. Why are we spending billions putting free broadband into homes to people that already have broadband and can afford to pay it and are happy to pay for it.

so Agüero, sterling Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees mogg , who I am sure all have broadband and can afford to pay it , we are going to take out their broadband out and put BT broadband for free.

it’s as daft as universal child allowance which was available to everyone and millionaires claimed it even though they didn’t need it , thankfully that was stopped and it is now means tested.

Giving those who cannot afford broadband is a good idea as it helps them connect to society, look for jobs apply etc but I am sorry the govt paying broadband for the rich is just a stupid dumb idea.

The broadband initiative from Labour is an interesting one. Think there is merit in treating broadband connection as a necessary utility. Every home should have it. Refreshing to see some bold ideas which have been largely absent so far.

Smashing idea when as in opposition you have limitless funds. Long may these Labour buffoons remain in opposition. Only an idiot would sign up to such total disregard for fiscal prudence.

Sorry couldn't resist ;)

It's been my firm opinion that if Labour got rid of the current shadow cabinet and Corbyn, Labour would storm the next election as everyone knows what they're about, what they want to achieve, and their backbenchers are less extreme than the current crop of egoists. Socialist society, capitalist economy. It's what most people want.

The money tree is bountiful this season eh Bob. But of course we'll conveniently file the billions needed as "infrastructure investment" so we don't need to count it.

McDonnell getting ripped to bits on sky news about the free broadband plan.

Pie in the fucking sky free stuff.

We dont believe you John.

I did. At the risk of sounding slightly immodest, I think it’s fair to say I’m generally regarded as quite good at getting my message across. Perhaps on this occasion I fell short.

No.

You see here you are conveying the message that you are slightly immodest.

I’d say you aren’t getting your message across very well there at all.

No, I was conveying the message that I might be coming across as slightly immodest. There is a clear difference. It’s important you read things thoroughly, Chris; it might help you one day.

Broadband is a natural monopoly.
BT planned to integrate the supply under one roof in the 80s.
Thatcher broke it all up and the rest is history.
Complete shambles.
