We haven't had one of those since Clement Attlee.

And in truth it wasn't Attlee who delivered a Labour government, memories of the appalling treatment of returning soldiers after the First World War, the great depression and the success of central planning during the Second World War did that.
Well if you ignore the ones that win elections and actually help families, no we havent. If you prefer self indulgent leaders that serve their own ideology and paying members instead of voters and working people then no we haven't.

I know you didn't like Tony & Gordon but really

You would have thought political parties would have their manifesto ready for publication on the first day of the campaign, so they can promote and refer to all the interesting and inclusive policies held within it.

Manifestos are like a slow fan dance, there's the odd burst of excitement, but mostly they're not very revealing with a poor climax.

Will the real Johnson stand up?

He is not in the slightest bit interested in anything other than himself which makes him totally unfit to be PM. What he might do ? Who knows. No sensible person should want to find out.

As usual, I'm catching up last Saturday's Guardian before opening today's, but here's John Crace on Liar Johnson:

Here’s a thought that’s often bothered me. Would Boris Johnson pass a lie detector test? Is he so well trained to lie that he is now incapable of distinguishing between the truth and falsehoods or is there a vestigial trace of conscience that keeps him awake at night? In his Trump-style rally in Birmingham to launch the Tory election campaign – a few hundred people corralled into the corner of a hall to make it look on TV like the place was rammed, and sharp-suited minders prodding activists to wave their placards at key moments in the speech – it was far easier to keep track of Johnson’s lies than anything remotely accurate. First he declared he didn’t want the election – despite having begged parliament for it three times – and then maintained that MPs had blocked his withdrawal bill despite the fact it had passed its second reading and it had been Johnson himself who had pulled his own legislation. Thereafter, the lies came thick and fast. The only thing the country can trust the prime minister to be is untrustworthy – and in his 10-minute speech I counted almost 20 barefaced lies. That’s one nearly every 30 seconds. He couldn’t even tell the truth about how long he had been in No 10. Almost certainly none of this matters and Johnson will continue to make the same false statements in every speech he gives and most voters either won’t notice or won’t care. But I have decided that I will continue to call him out for his lies in every sketch I write about him. It will make me feel better even if it achieves little else.

Where have I called you a liar?

I’m merely stating there’s plenty we can listen to from within the party and the day to day running that have more experience than you.

I’m not suggesting what you said is even false, never mind a lie.

"Because, no offence, I don’t think you’re fucking involved in the day to day running of the Labour Party or spend that much time within the party."

If you weren't suggesting falsehood, why could I possibly take offence? Maybe your idea of "within the party" doesn't include three hours canvassing today.

There are plenty of morally responsible business owners who won't be. In the last few years we have introduced profit share for all staff, annual pay rises of 2 and 3 times inflation. And a 9 day fortnight. We also have no issue paying our fair share of corporation tax. Big businesses need to pay their fair share, as many pay little or no corporation tax or VAT in the UK. The Tax system needs radical overall to make sure every company pays their fair share. My fears are Labour will just raise taxes which will hit S M businesses hardest with the big companies still using international tax avoidance schemes. They have done this every time they have got into power.

Have I got this right? You've introduced a 4 and a half day week (equivalent) yet (for some) a 4 day week within ten years is a pipe dream that will bankrupt the nation.

It sounds like you need Labour's plans to go after big business (e.g. on late payment to SMEs).

Have a look at that Forbes article posted earlier....https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidp...s-should-not-fear-jeremy-corbyn/#a6c4acc22f9c

A nine day fortnight is not necessarily a 4.5 day week. We gave the staff the option to work an extra 45mins a day over the 9 days . Meaning we work just under the same ammount of hours. Every one likes it.

Now that the Lib Dems have shown themselves economically to be even more right wing than the Tories, remain forum intending lib dem punters in Tory/Labour marginals may wish to reconsider their vote and switch to Labour otherwise hard or no deal Brexit beckons.

I think Corbyn would do far more damage [than Brexit], it's as simple as that.
No it's not as simple as that ( Corbyn vs Brexit).
You said a Miliband government if elected and we had remained in the EU would have done far more economic damage than Brexit at a time when you were predicting dire economic effects of Brexit.
That was plainly ridiculous and shows you are purely and simply a tribal Tory at heart.
You will vote for and support them come what may.
Admit it.
