He does look like someone constantly battling to keep his head above water. I think he knows he'll never be the same and it's very sad.

I think the abuse he has received on here today is shameful.
I agree.

The lad made his career through his style of play and swashbuckling runs up the pitch. His knees have fucked him, he is clearly trying to get back to his level. He needs to keep playing.

People are acting like hes scored 2 own goals today and lost us the game, blame the other fuckers on the pitch for not putting their chances away and giving away shite goals.

Yes i would go with that for now,i think zinchy is back for the derby but won't be match fit,it's angel the next 2 games for me,mendy can't even do the basics at the moment,i'm praying pep see's it
I think mendy is finished injurys have wrecked his career if these injurys didnt happen he would probably be one of if not the best attacking left back on the planet he has all the attirbutes there.

He shouldnt really be he was just following peps intructions if we played more to his strenghs and had him just focus on being an attacking fullback he'd be good

He's got no pace now. Zero skill to start with so how's he going to be good bombing forwards?

Must be very hard to take when injuries steal your talent.

I'm not a huge Mendy fan but I have to say it looked like his social media content before his comeback was mainly focused on his rehabilitation rather than the bollocks he posted previously. He has given it his all probably to regain fitness but unfortunately he looks fucked.

Sad for both him and us.

I'll risk naffness and quote myself from a couple of years back on the topic of City Left Backs. I believe the record is something like....

Delph - Frequent Liability
Zinchenko - Just not good enough in defence
Danilo - Really bad at LB, can't really defend full stop.
Kolarov - Permanent 'weakest link' and fan target. Soft, slow, etc.
Clichy - Shite, can't pass, same defensive mistakes as Delph, therefore worse.
Bridge - Worst buy in a decade.
Garrido - Weak as piss.
Ball - Poor. Baloon gate.
Ben Thatcher - FFS
Stuart Pearce - 39 years old.

And now Mendy, who has at times resembled an actual, trained, professional circus grade clown, when required to defend.

It's our worst position. Tactically, LB is frequently the weakest, most exposed link in many teams, not just us. But without either Barry or Fernandinho, (and then, without a true left sided CB), we simply don't cover it.

BUT BY ECK CAN WE BUY ANYONE WORSE THAN THIS LATEST ONE?

(Probably)

Clichy was excellent in our first PL title win.

Agree, I find it very sad the he is being pilloried on here, I feel for the lad. He had a fantastic season at Monaco before he joined us, he was a beast. The criticism can’t be helping, you can see it in his face he’s hurting, he knows he’s better than he’s showing but maybe those injuries are a step beyond a full recovery. The lad’s a human being, I’m not comfortable with the mullering he’s getting on here.

We should go balls deep for Ben Chilwell. Atleast, he can defend.

Think he'll be out of the clubs price range.

Maguire went for £85m? They'll want that again and probably more, especially as it's likely they'll be above us.

Kolarov was a class above Mendy and all those you listed.

Also Ball was a good servant for us as was Clichy although he couldn't cross the ball.

Plus, I wouldn't write off Zinchenko yet. We've done well with him in the team so far.
Kolarov was absolutely dog shit.

I like Mendy and have been firmly in the “give him time category”. However he’s now weakening us and I seriously wonder if he can ever recapture his old self. He reminds me a little of a punch-drunk boxer. Could he rehabilitate in the EDS squad or is that not allowed?

Decent player but obviously still struggling for form, and peps system relies heavily on the lb/rb playing as wing backs, covering a lot of ground and being equally good in defence and attack. This leaves no place to hide if a player is less than 100%, and Walker can seem just as dodgy on the right when he's tired.
