Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Has your source told you things that have come true before this with pep?
I don’t consider the source to be a mate, just somebody very familiar and who I always say hi to if I see them.... I’ll leave it at that.. I was with a mate and we chatted briefly about our “expectations for the coming season”... that’s when the bomb was dropped because I said I hoped that Pep would extend and rebuild

I hope you are right Marvin, I asked the guy yesterday why didn't Arteta stay then and go for the job if Pep is going.. because Poch is already on-board was the reply

I don’t want to be seen to be piggy-backing on this, but I heard a very similar story about 10 days ago - not from anyone within the club but from someone who has decent contacts. The only difference was that it wasn’t a definite he would be leaving at the end of the season, but it could well happen, and Pochettino is the one they’re looking at if he does go. There was also some, shall we say, rather negative news about the FFP investigation, and talk of a 3 year ban but with 2 suspended. I found that one very difficult to believe as unless there is a smoking gun piece of evidence then City would never accept that in a million years and it’s off to CAS we go. Plus it goes against what Sam Lee was reporting not so long ago and he’s usually quite reliable with City info.

Walked away from Barca.

He walked away from Barca in very different circumstances and a combination of factors. The politics at play in the background of the club, the fatigue of the role he was in, the sense that achievements there would be difficult to top and the fact that the Laporta and co who were gearing up for elections to the board were in a way trying to use him as a pawn. This has been written about in a number of books.

I think he's sincere when he says that he's happy at City, and it's clear that this 'project' that the club is working on isn't finished yet - we're close to establishing ourselves, but we're not quite there yet and that plus (and it's painful to admit, Liverpool and Klopp) the challenges City can offer are a big enough carrot to make me think he'll stick around beyond this season.

Where can he go and get the same resources, facilities, backing of the board and be challenged domestically by rivals of the quality that the Premier League offers? He's a true sportsmen, he wants to compete with the best, and whilst City can still offer that there's nothing to worry about.

Correct

Some of that info doesn't add up.

I can tell you Arteta didn't throw his hat into the ring simply because he has never been in the equation.

We told him he could take the Arsenal job the first time around and also gave him permission to speak to Newcastle last summer.

That's a timeline well before Pochettino was sacked or people were speculating over Pep.
Presumably Arteta wants to start his managerial career at a top club - the Newcastle offer probably wasn't appealing.

As for Arsenal vacancy in 2018 - maybe Arteta wanted more time as Pep's understudy; maybe Arteta's preferred managerial role was to manage us given the support he'd receive from management.

As far as Arteta's decision to take the Arsenal post - obviously Arteta now feels fully capable to manage a top club; Arsenal obviously has special appeal. Also, he might think (without knowing for sure) that Pep could well leave - and with Pochettino expressing interest in becoming our next manager should Pep leave - well, if Pep does leave, maybe Arteta would rather not take the risk that we would choose Pochettino.

In the same vein, if Arteta feels that he's got what it takes to manage a top club right now (obviously he does) - then why would he wait for another opening? If Arteta thought that Pep might take a long term extension to his contract - for instance - then taking the Arsenal post would be a no-brainer if he wants to manage a top club as soon as possible.

Which is to say... I doubt that Pep has decided for sure whether or not he'll be at City come season's end. Arteta's decision to manage Arsenal makes sense given the uncertainty surrounding Pep and perceived competition from Pochettino - if Arteta thinks that Pep might leave - too, taking the Arsenal position makes sense if Arteta thinks that Pep will extend his stay at our club.

Last time Arteta accepted the Arsenal job in principle but was given backword when Emery became available.

I didn't know this - makes sense though - and bolsters the case that Arteta probably doesn't know what Pep will decide as to his future at our club.

As soon as United stop trying to not lose face and sack ole - they'll go all out for Pochettino. So it's no banker he's our pep backup.
For what it's worth, and my source is more of a wannabe than actually connected, Pep's staying with a new contract. Oh and ffp is not an issue. Club waiting until end of season and dipper jizzfest has died down.

Im pretty sure Pep will be here next season and maybe even longer. He can´t leave after letting Klopp and Liverpool win the title without giving him a proper fight once again, unless we win the cl this season, that might turn his head around.I hope he stays and with some proper signings in the summer ,we will be at our best again.

Dusty Bin is used for holding stuff, much like a Pot. You put the stuff in a Pot. Pots can be carries on Jets. What do you get when you put Pot, Jet and ina together? PotJetina. Sounds like.......
Must be 100%
Admire your analysis - hope you are 100% wrong ;-)

These type of rumours have been going since I first watched City over half a century ago.
Hint: Why bullshit fans for free when you can sell it to the media?

Poch is absolutely out of the question. He is not going to wait 18 months.
We wouldn’t be expecting him to wait 18 months, just 6. He’s our “insurance policy” should Pep decide to walk away at the end of this season, which personally I don’t think he will, however *should* the Champs League end up in our possession then he may well decide his time is done.

Yeah, I remember a crazy rumour that we were about to appoint George Poyser. Can you believe that? Haha. Oh....

I’m just not getting this pay poch a retainer in case pep leaves. Ffs do you think pep would lead the top three who are all his personal friends a costly dance that would cost the club millions just in case?

I was too busy shouting sack Mac and throwing stuff at them unbreakable windows.
Sweet memories.
