It was a penalty, most of the players were up the field, saying he was "miles away" is complete exaggeration. Why he was booked was Alderweireld was being particularly aggressive pushing him and the officials must have assumed he was doing the same. If you actually look closely at the incident he was not being an aggressor. Very often officials book a player from each side, as if they are being even handed, IMO he was unlucky based on what actually happened.
I maintain he had no business running in from where he was to get involved, he brought it on himself

I thought he was having a decent game yesterday until the sending off. It went downhill from an awful corner by Mahrez, that put us under pressure from the breakaway. His shoulder charge on Winks was a yellow card in today's game, but because he went and got himself involved in an altercation at the penalty aftermath and received a yellow card, he copped for the second yellow and subsequent red on the breakaway challenge.
All totally unnecessary.

I tend to agree.

In theory, Zin shouldn't get involved and risk a yellow (now, hindsight, without adrenaline involved).

But: he was stepping in for a team mate, who was just pointed out of being a cheating **** by Alderweireld in an aggressive manner.
Raheem, who has a hard time anyway and Zin obviously wanted to help him and stood the ground.

In terms of team psychology it's not a bad thing to show some confident body language at such a difficult ground,
the high art though is doing it without getting booked...

The 2nd yellow was correctly given as a tactical foul, although Winks couldn't wait to go down for a near non-event.

Gundogan - not on a yellow - had the chance to stop Winks just before Zin, but didn't. A costly decision.

Besides that I thought Zin had a good match and positive attitude, was ready for a fight (which he showed later on...).

he's been playing LB for 2 season now, so doubt it's anything new to him any more. He's also been good at it, so I'm wondering what you think a "proper" LB would bring to the table
The name "Leftback" apparently :)

It's fast disappearing into the mists of time but I seem to recall that the David Luis assault on Sergio which prompted the Alty Tit to delve into his pocket for a red and then suspiciously produced a toilet roll with which to wipe his arse when his bout of constipation suddenly ended, was infinitely more deserving of any coloured card than the gentle shoulder charge that sent a twelve stone forward tearing towards our goal line suddenly sprawling towards the touchline.

Gundogan and physical challenge? He will always leave it to someone else.

Zinchenko, like both John and Nico, needs Laporte next to him to guide him and clean up after him. It's not the end of the world since he's relatively inexperienced, but I've not been surprised to see him struggle without Laporte there.

The more I think about it, and the more I watch it, the more I'm convinced that Zin's mistake was the result of a growing tension throughout the team, a growing frustration that we were not finding a way of winning a match that we had utterly dominated. Without wishing to exonerate him from the blame, that kind of thing does spread throughout a team and leads to strange decisions. It was so utterly unlike anything he'd done up to then in the match — in the first half, I was struck by how thoroughly in control of his timing he was. I don't think I've seen him so sure footed in his judgements in that position. As I say, I now think it's part of a collective psychology of growing tension and frustration, which also manifested itself differently in attacking players overthinking their shots rather than just trusting to their instincts.

I wish Zinchenko played in midfield instead of Gundogan.

He's shown at international level that he's a really capable box to box midfielder, doing the #6 work but also getting involved in the attack. He keeps possession well, he presses well, he is a lot more robust and likely to help out defensively and at 22 he's got loads of time to be taught as well.

The more Gundogan plays in this side the more I come to the conclusion that he's a really good player and I really like him but he's got no place in the starting XI.

Well, most PL yellows in our squad has got...? You guessed it. Illy the butcher, 7 this season. Rodders on 6.

Gundogan already took several bookings for the team.
Maybe he didn't want to get closer to 10, but we have to avoid playing with 10 men first.

Btw, pulling Winks' shirt or arm would have been enough, just stop the break if necessary.

I think he’s a better left back than Mendy.
Think they both offer something different, if Mendy can stay fit we have 2 good left backs in these 2. Zinchenko's passing and inside movement is something else for a full back. He won every header yesterday as well. Funny how far his stock has fallen from last season when he's done nothing wrong apart from get injured. He is a top player.

annoyed by his silly and needless fouls, needs to be smarter. Mendy is a better crosser too.
Must be the worse you are at them, the more the legend grows.

Kolarov would find a blue shirt once every dozen crosses and be hailed as a brilliant crosser somehow.

Mendy's high, 90mph, crosses that go for throw ins have him up there too.

If we had a tall striker, or Sterling was back on the right making his trademark runs, Mendy would be lethal as he has been in brief spells with us.

Zinchenko's irritating little chips into the keepers arms when he doesn't know what to do with it just pee me off, either whip it in or recycle the ball. Mendy has 9 assists in 39 games in PL & CL (3 this season), Zinchenko 5 in 41, none this season. He's not a left-back and I worry for the Madrid 2nd leg because it could quite easily turn into Spurs away again when he just gets manipulated into costing us.
