The number of critical care beds per 100,000. U.K. has half of Italy.

It’s what people keep voting for to be fair.
One thing about this thread though is that I’ve noticed one or 2 of the ‘profit before everything’ merchants seem to be realising that there are values that are more important than money.

It’s a respiratory virus. It gets into your nose, mouth and throat. When there, you “have” the virus. If it gets into your lungs, you start to experience the serious issues that come with the virus, as it starts to attack them. Not sure what getting a respiratory virus has to do with getting into a cut on your leg?
HIV can get into your body via your big toe but does it stay there, the capability of this virus is unknown, so are you saying unless it gets into your respiratory system its harmless because thats complete bollox,,were being advised not to touch our faces without washing hands and that includes the eyes which has nothing to do with respiratory

That’s a good point about the eyes.

And a virus is a virus, I can’t think of one that wouldn’t get to work once in one’s bloodstream.

Fallas finally cancelled. Had started on May 1st with huge gatherings every day in the city for the mascletas. Next week is the final week and it usually brings in a couple of million visitors to Valencia. Fuck knows why it’s taken so long considering the decisions already made on football games!

Nowt wrong with washing yer arse mate.
It’s probably a hundred thousand times more hygienic than smearing shit around your arse crack with toilet paper, leaving winnets behind until the next time you actually wash your arse.

In Spain it can be *very* difficult to stop public events, especially once they have begun, as they tend to include quite a few organisations and levels of government, some of which are rivals to each other for various reasons. I was surprised they cancelled it at all, to be honest, even though I thought they should, as it was set to finish on the 19th and most of the organisers were saying they should allow it to go on.

Believe it or not I think the cancellation of SXSW sobered a few — at least that is what a mate of mine from Valencia said to me.

Regarding that twitter thread, I just had a mate send it to me awhile ago and I am just hoping it is a sensationalist wind up. Otherwise it really is grim reading.
The Italian association for anesthetists and intensive care has advised to prioritise those with "better chance at surviving" in the event of rationing, so not necessarily give ICU as first come, first serve. Rationing of ICU can obviously only be operated after they've made any effort possible to increase the resources for ICU (e.g. beds) in the hospital and after they've evaluated the possibility of transferring the patients to better-equipped health centres.
I'd say it's standard procedure to give these triage protocols in these situations, and thankfully they give them. I don't want to imagine if each doctor had to quickly make such a decision on their own multiple times a day. But yeah they're doing it and that's also why nurses like the one in the photo end up weeping to sleep.

I can’t even big to imagine what this will do for the economy (just like everywhere else) but you can’t really shut schools and close stadiums and then have a festival of that size and nature.
