Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

They are all at work, they just need to go to their office and pick up their video phone, they can start the conversation at a high level today, set out a protacol and tell people what info they need to have to make things happen FROM tuesday,i don't think you are getting that things are getting worse by the hour,it is thurs, tues is a long way off, your stats are not going to wash on this subject

Nothing to do with the Euros is getting worse by the hour Karen. That's just panicky nonsense.

Just because some decisions have to be made quickly in a pandemic doesnt mean every single decision does, and with every major league suspending football (premier league likely to follow Johnson's address shortly) UEFA have done time to gather information and worn out what is possible.

So just to get this straight, you think they can get hold of the right person in charge of hosting major events in London, Munich, Baku, St Petersburg, Budapest, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Bilbao, Glasgow, Dublin and the people who manage all 12 stadiums and the 11 government departments who need to be involved by this evening and they can all provide all the information immediately about whether they can host again in 12 months time and then make a decision straight away?

What fucking world are you living on? Theres a reason these tournaments are worked on for 8 years before the date, it takes a long time to organise them and postponing a year is not as simple as just phoning people up telling them.

Have you ever heard of D-day? I don't think it took 8 years to plan it and if the plan wasn,t working they got with it.

Not making this a political thread but sounds like the Government haven't got a clue on this one, just postpone it and play it all in the summer if we can, Euro's goes back to next year.

Pure journalistic guess work, he won’t have facts behind this at all

it has to be decided to stop all league games and i wo uld expect that involves if they can be played in the summer which means cancelling the euros, there is nothing in isolation, one decisision depends on another, nothing to do with panic,it is organisation

What the fuck are you talking about? League games have nothing to do with UEFA.

Every other country in Europe has managed to suspend their league without knowing if the Euros are going on or not.

Whether these stadia are available to host the event in 12 months is a moot point, they have several months to make arrangements for a postponed tournament. The postponement in itself is a very simple process to go through.

What fucking world are you living on if you think uefa’s procrastination is motivated by logistical concerns rather than purely financial considerations.

Govt advice, anyone with a cough should take 7 days off work. How can we continue with fixtures if players have a cough, and have to take a week off. Then next week another teams players get a cough and have to take a week off, with teams playing 3 games a week. and they expect it to continue for weeks to come.

Make a decision and cancel fixtures. Football is not a matter of life and death. This is a new disease and we do not have immunity. We do not have the intensive care beds to deal with this.

Sigh,FIFA cancelling the euro's will kick off all kinds of other decisions

I thought they were going to announce something .................... all they've done is basically status quo!! Every other country can do something but not us, we procrastinate and procrastinate!!!!!! Flaming cowards!!! Oh how I wish I could swear!

D-day was being planned for over 6 months.

Karen wants a continent spanning tournament rearranged in 6 hours.
It doesn’t need to be planned to the detail just yet. All is required is a decision to delay for one year. The details can be filled in later.

It is blindingly obvious that the European Championship for 2020 will have be delayed. Otherwise the whole football programme throughout most of Europe for 2019-20 will be binned.

the premier league have to take control and cancel the games for 3 weeks and the FA needs cancel the international break and play the premier league play games in April instead, its not going away and day soon, and before the real panic sets in and the public start to run riots and smash up towns and shops and the policing will have to be use to keep the peace

football is not bigger than life but manchester city players need to be isolating in making it 100% safe and not playing burnley

.

By the virtue of the same multi year planning process that you include in your appraisal. By default, every major event also includes within same planning timeframes multiple contingencies should events conspire against it. So organisers will already have a number of fallback options. Granted they may not cover every eventuality but they will have other windows already provisionally discussed and ready to be implemented and or tweaked based on actual circumstances prevailing at the time. So in effect, they could be discussing simply fallback option b or c or simply cancel.
So that meeting could be lot simpler to address with just stakeholders as all others will just fall into line with option decided?
