Can I just make a point that, if someone posts a question that's already been asked and discussed in here - while I appreciate that it may be tiresome for those who have been engaged with the whole thread - it's not reasonable to have expected everyone to have read 834 pages and it is OK for people to ask. Ignore such questions if you like, but it's not 'trolling' or anything else which justifies scorn.

Seriously crazy or even fishy. They are either in the search of glory to do things nobody else does and eventually becoming heroes if successful, or there is something very fishy behind the scenes.

They are using a method based on what eradicated smallpox, unfirtunately that took a few hundred years, caused many deaths and scarred people and wasn't very effective until a vacine had also been produced.

Herd immunity was used for measles too, agaun quite inefective until a vacine was produced.

Using scientific methods of the early 20th century on a disease most certainly of our time.

His reasoning was that if you ask people to stay in for too long, they’ll get bored and eventually just go outside and do whatever they want.

He said this was based on “behavioural science”.

Whereas the other developed nations are taking the view that if people’s lives are in mortal danger, they’ll stay indoors for as long as is necessary.

I agree with the second idea.

The reason our government is advising people to carry on as normal is because they want people to get the virus. It’s called herd immunity.

They want a certain amount of people to get it now so that patients are drip fed in to the NHS bit by bit, instead of all at once.

Their advice to carry on as normal is not because they think going to a stadium with 55k others is just as safe as staying at home.

It’s because the NHS is so chronically underfunded that it’s at breaking point right now so they’re trying to drip feed patients in to the system to manage capacity and they’re hoping it won’t reach it’s peak until the warmer months when the NHS is under less pressure.

If you want to be a guinea pig for their theory, crack on. I don’t need Boris Johnson to tell me whether avoiding close contact with people is better for my health than just carrying on as if nothing is happening but giving my hands a good old wash.
I’m not even sure that the behavioural science justifies not taking some actions. Yes, there will be a risk of quarantine fatigue if we go into lockdown too soon. But it seems that we’re going to take an approach of adopting minimal controls until we reach the point where we will suddenly go into lockdown. That’s going to be a huge shock to the system for which many will be unprepared and will rebel. Might it not be better to build up gradually, imposing restrict on leisure actions first before Big Bang?

news out of china seems very limited now, surely that should be high on the agenda as a sign of whats to come. Has it peaked? is it still rising? whats actually happening there?

Must admit I’m still confused as to how the 7 day/ 14 day rules apply in households. I know that if my wife gets symptoms she has to self isolate for 7 days. Am I supposed to self isolate for 14 days? I expect that in most households if one person gets the virus then their partner will just carry on as normal. Try to take up the slack, keep working and doing the shopping etc. Even though they will be very high risk. What is the guidance?

I also think there will be huge problems in how people interpret the guidance on when to seek further assistance when self isolating. The guidance says to contact the nhs if you’re still ill after 7 days or the symptoms get worse. But surely everyone’s symptoms are going to get worse during those 7 days? How do you make that decision that you need help? I can see that if I get the illness I’ll try to tough it out, but if my wife gets it I’ll be trying to get her help after a couple of days

So there are at least 4 pl clubs that have players or manager in quarantine for at least 14 days. Even if no one else was to catch it those players would need at least two weeks to get back to fitness when they're out of quarantine.

Basically all sport needs to be stopped for at least 4 weeks.

Not sure if posted but the Czech Republic has gone into partial lockdown and imposed a travel ban to the country on visitors from a number of countries (including the UK, USA).
